:4932:SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES! :4932:
In 1980, the My Little Pony line of toy figures and merchandise was created by a New England woman named Bonnie Zacharie. Little did she know that with her simple idea, she would create a legacy that would last well into the twenty-first century.
The funny thing about My Little Pony collectors is that they cannot easily be picked out of a crowd. They are students, lawyers, nurses, taxidermists, Broadway actors, teachers, and florists. Most of them conduct their lives just like anyone else, with the same mundane day-to-day obligations that everyone has to face. Yet these same people have hundreds or even thousands of these small plastic ponies displayed or stored in their homes, with values that would blow your mind.
We will meet people who have enormous collections, some with whole rooms of their houses devoted to displaying their collections. Some were parents or children in the 80's, and some are children growing up with the newest generation of My Little Pony.
And on this eccentric and upbeat journey, we will celebrate a nearly 3-year legacy, and find out just what it means to be a My Little Pony collector.
Hi everyone!
As some of you know, I am a senior Film major at a liberal arts college here in Maryland. I am now shooting my senior project, which I have chosen to be a documentary. And which I have chosen to be about pony collectors.
I am pleased to announce that Hasbro has granted me official permission as of spring 2010.
INTERVIEWEES
Interviewees have been found, thank you!
Interviews and shoots will begin in April and last until September.
SEARCHING FOR TEST AUDIENCES
Also, I will be looking for test audiences--a limited number of people to see the documentary as it comes together and to provide constructive feedback toward the finished piece from the perspective of collectors themselves.

SEARCHING FOR OLD PHOTOS
I am currently seeking out digital scans of photos of collectors with their ponies, ideally when they were kids, to use in a nostalgic memories montage. If you would like to contribute, send me a PM! I can digitally blur faces upon request if necessary.
NOW ACCEPTING WEBCAM / SELF-MADE INTERVIEWS!
As part of a special feature on the DVD of my project, I am planning to add a string of short interviews from ANYWHERE in the world. If you would like to participate, here is the following criteria:
- The video must be as clear and high quality as is possible for you to achieve. This includes audio that is as CLEAR as possible, good lighting (see below), and minimal background distractions. Remember to conduct yourself as if you were in a professional interview.
Check out the following links for a valuable tutorial on how to capture the best possible webcam / digital video:
- I CANNOT use your interview without your verbal expressed permission. So before you begin to talk, please read the following statement aloud, filling in your name and such. This part will NOT appear in ANY part of the film, it is for my permissions references only.
I, _______ (your name), grant my permission to the producer of the My Little Obsession documentary for the use of this video, which I have provided for the purpose of the film. My permission includes the production, as well as any applications to film festivals, the world wide web, exhibitions and related purposes as the filmmaker shall determine.
- Please answer the following questions in one clip no longer than 45 seconds to one minute long. Feel free to skip any questions you want to.
- What is your online community nickname or screen name, if you have one?
- What country are you from? (Please specify at most country and state / province only, if applicable)
- What is your profession by day?
- How long have you been collecting?
- How many ponies do you have?
- Who is your favorite pony?
- Anything else you would like to add or plug (such as artwork, customs, your website, or something special people know about you (ie: "My name is Drusilla and I am the proud owner of the giant Sundance!").
- Please email (or send through Megauploads/etc) the highest possible quality video to MustBeJewel@Gmail.com. You are also welcome to mail DVD's. Preferred files are Quicktime, mp4, and wav. Please contact me for a shipping address. Please also note that because I receive a photo, video, or interview, that it may not be included in the final production.
POST-PRODUCTION IS NEARLY HERE!
Just a few more interviews, then comes the matter of editing down over 12 hours of footage. If some of you don't see me for a month or so, I've temporarily changed residence to the basement editing lab. Please send food and sunlight.
Keep an eye on this thread for all the latest news!
