Well after I heard of other Kmarts and Sears closing in other locations, I've always been suspicious of when it would be our turn, Lol.

Liquidation sales start the 12th here

Then I get to watch creepy outdated Kmart hollow out

Shopping at that place was like walking into a time capsule. Soooo outdated, always felt like stepping back into the late 80's, early 90's

I liked getting clothes, ponies and "alternate" gift selections there.

We'd eat pizza lunch it dinner there once in a while.

It was a nice change of pace now and then but soooo outdated Lol it was entertaining in that aspect, alone.

And Sears was the only anchor store left keeping my local mall from becoming a completely dead mall

*eerie singy ghost noises* :Zombie:

So yeah...

Oh
MASSIVE STORE-WIDE CLEARANCE SALE happening in October.
I asked them if it was liquidation and they were like noooooo we're doing JUST FINE
Now here we are, 2018 with legitimate breaking news

They will be closed by April

We lost both our kmarts about 4 years ago and we still have sears but Jcpenny went under came back and just went under again. I don't think there is a Kmart for a 100 miles near me.

Down south of us is a mall that almost completely dead too, even the food court is gone

But JCPenney is practically the only place still there besides a hobby store, game store and a library. Might have been a gym there too

But the place is about completely dead

If JCPenney went under I think that would be the death of the place

Our mall not too bad but a lot of store change every year it seems.

We have not had a Kmart is so many years, I can't remember the last time we had one. I have not shopped in Kmart since the early 90's. I do shop at Sears from time to time because, they carry Lands End which is a favorite brand of mine. Then all of the sudden my Sears store quit selling Lands End. So, I hardly go there anymore. The problem with Sears is they mark their items way higher than other stores, then they put them on a so called sale. Its a lie really because, the price of the item after their so called sale is still more than you would pay for that same item at Target or Walmart even. So Sears is crooked in their business practices and I feel that is wrong to do to a customer. When you are dishonest on a regular basis you will eventually fall. Honesty and a true sale is fair and brings in customers. Screwing people out of money with fake sales is just terrible. The fall of the American mall is hard for me. In Houston we had malls that thrived all over the city. When Walmart came into the city so strong it moved everything out. Toy stores started closing, small stores started closing and the malls just turned into ghost towns. Unless you are in the richest part of town the malls will not make it here. It is because the majority of customers can't afford mall prices and have gone to Walmart. The problem with supporting Walmart so much though is it destroys the quaint little shops and the fun little toy stores in the corner of the strip mall you love. I am not a big Walmart fan. I do shop there on occasion.

We still have both. Its amazing how K-Mart manages to hang on being way more overpriced then other stores. Plus ours is dirty, dim, cramped and your right. It does have this kinda creepy feel.

Sears is doing well enough.

Our Sears closed last year and K-mart has been closed for probably about 4-5 years. I never really shopped at K-mart much but liked going in there and looking around because it always did feel like stepping back in time a little LOL I was sad to see it go though just because it had always been there as far back as I could remember. I did manage to get a good price on a KitchenAid mixer when our Sears closed. I think our malls only have JCP left, Macy, Dillards and Sears have all closed. The malls our nothing like they used to be 20 years ago, it's a shame. I used to enjoy going for a day of shopping when they had stores like, Yankee, Bath and Body Works, the Disney store, Victoria Secret, Hallmark, Williams Sonoma, etc Now most of the malls are full of weird one off's, like Dominican hair braiding and We Buy Gold booths o_O

Yeah I didn't like shopping at Sears much
Kinda wondered how it stayed afloat in our dead mall when I hardly saw any customers there
I heard a downfall was when they stopped offering the Sears catalog and refused to put anything online.
Just kept physical stores up with their jacked up prices

Lol I feel the dirty and dim at ours too
Last time I was there they were playing a old inappropriate song I was like "this ain't creepy at all" Lol
And I was wondering how the place was still alive
The general feeling you get there is the color orange. Burnt orange.

I heard it had something to do with overpriced toys, merging with a bad company that is rumored to snap up businesses and run them into the ground and internal politics. I do like KB, but they were awfully expensive.

Our k-mart went under a good 7 years ago. They put a church in the building. Seriously, how many churches does one city need? We average two per block.
We still have sears. Their quality has plummeted. I only get my water filters for my refrigerator from there now because I don't know where else to get them. Actually, it's even set up online now so I don't go to the store. They still carry land's end brand clothing, but that's overpriced for me. It's sad since the town I mostly grew up in only had a k-mart. It was the only non-fast food chain store in our town of population 400. Needless to say, we loved that k-mart. Good memories.

Well, personally I think churches are wonderful. I am a little old fashioned about them. I prefer them to look like churches. I have attended services in regular churches and in buildings and like the feeling I get when I attend in a regular church. There are a lot of different religions out there and all want space for their members. They like to build churches in areas where people have families. If it is a religion that has a different branch or something there may be a need for it in that area as people may be working to build one for a while. Like the Lutheran church has several branches. Not every Lutheran church is the same. So if there are 3 on a block but all different synods then there you go. For those like me that are the Christian faith, it is quite nice to have a church that you like close by. Believe it or not we have a huge problem in Houston with this. We have hundreds of churches everywhere. I am having a hard time finding a church I like close to my home. I don't feel like driving 30 minutes to church. Every church is different, the type of people that attend, the way the service is and all that. R2 and I have gone to several in our area and have not cared for them. So, if a new one popped up that had the belief system I carry I would be thrilled. So, for the person of faith...think of it as similar to the pharmacy. A Christian needs their church as much, they need the convenience of closer to home and a place to enjoy others that share their passions. I figure not christian faith churches would be the same. Church for the Christian is like a family. It is a wonderful place to go. So, @Tak one can never have too many churches. Wink Just a different perspective. LOL I actually like to ask the same question but like this: "Good grief how many more Walmarts do we need?" LOL Well, I guess a lot because they have to service all the people in their area. Same is the church. I would give anything to have the kind of church I want to attend in my area.

Good point @tulagirl I didn't think of it that way. We're lucky enough to live a five minute walk from a church with a great pastor and a wonderful group of people. I, too, prefer that they look like a church. My grandparents were devout Catholics and I went with them whenever I visited. That old church was gorgeous. My other grandparents were Christian and I loved Sunday school. Evelyn is always excited for vacation bible camp.

I agree with too many Wal-Marts. I don't shop there since just the thought gives me panic. Did you know that when Wal-Mart was originally opened it was only selling American made products? That's the original reason they existed. Like Disney, when the original owner, Sam, died, the company exploded into something much different than the vision of it's creator.

Wow no I had no idea at all about that with Walmart. Boy that isn't the case now. I did however know about Disney, but Disney visions were a bit controversial even before the death of Walt. I love Disney, but I am not all too happy with all of who Walt was. That aside I admire him in many ways too. I also have to consider the state of people at the time he got started and belief systems in place about things at the time. So, he was probably just a victim of his own upbringing and culture with some things. I loved Sunday school growing up also and VBS was always fun. I enjoyed my years of teaching it at well. My father's side of the family is Catholic, my mother's side was Methodist. Mom decided to go with Catholic when I was a child. Then she made a huge change somewhere in there and we ended up at a Baptist Church. I went to Lutheran school and since that was what I was the most familiar with I preferred it over the family church. When I moved out into the area I live now there are several Lutheran churches but they are all different. There is one that I would probably like, but they don't have a sanctuary and it drives me crazy sitting in the cafeteria for church. So, I am kind of waiting for them as they are a new church and gathering their funds to build their sanctuary. They have focused heavily on their school first. Which I do understand. The problem is that one is just a bit of a drive and that I don't really want. There is a church down the street we have discussed going to and we may just do that here soon. I love older churches. Most of the ones in Houston are downtown and all of my friends go to a Lutheran church down there. They have been trying to get me to attend it, but that too is a drive I am not up for every morning. Something will work out eventually.

I looked up the 5 Below store locations out of curiosity and saw they are all over the East half of the u.s.

Kinda hoping they'll make their way across the continent and I wouldn't mind if they took over the Kmart buildings :lolpony::lolpony::lolpony:

There's one a few hours from me in Oregon....

We've had an explosion of 5 Belows out here in Wisconsin, which is pretty cool. We still have a Sears in the mall where I work for some reason, at least I think it's still there. I work down on the other end by Boston Store and I don't usually venture that far. When I'm done at work, I'm usually out of there like a kitty cat out of a crate after a vet visit. Zoom lol.

Walt Disney was never quite the same after the accident death of his parents, It showed in his work. One reason why there are so few living mother in films.
I have nothing against churches I think the older ones are lovely my favorite on not over sea is the one in the French Quarter In LA. Sooo Pretty.
I just don't go to church for many reason one being crowds that cause me panic attacks bad ones like hide in the bathroom till church is over panic attacks. People wanting to hug me Why by the gods do they want to hug me some of these people have know me for years and know I don't like to be touched.
And oh yes Sitting through 3 hours of a man screaming about something I lose interest in about 10 min. NO joke same thing ever week. I am glad I can choose now if I want to go or not. I choose Not and I am a lot better off I think. WHY do Pentecostal pastor feel like they need to scream all the time and they need to breath funny I cant figure this out.

The Pentecostals scream because of strong passion about what they believe and also to get people fired up. I don't care for it either and especially do not care for people popping up all around me screaming while I am trying to listen. It is very distracting not to mention scares me to death. They interrupt the service so much I have had to leave those types of churches even though their praise and worship is really nice. So, they have their good points and their not so good points which is just another example of what I meant by finding the right fit in a church for myself. The holding of hands and hugging is that we are a family. I think it is important for them to be aware that people have health related issues that cause this to be stressful, but all I did was just exit the church right before that and go to the bathroom. Then I came back in. No sense in making them all stop what they love to do on the account of me one person with an issue. lol So, I love the Pentecostal worship hour, if I could hear the sermon I would love it, but the church as a whole is not for me. At least the few I have attended here were not. I do like Lakewood though. I have nothing against them though. I just need something a little different so I can get something out of it without feeling overwhelmed.

5 Below is a great store. I wish we had them when my nieces were little. I would have enjoyed taking them shopping for a surprise without it being total junk like the dollar store. It is a nice store to take kids into and get them something without breaking the bank. It has better quality items and name brands which is nice. I am not really one to like dollar store stuff at all. It has its purpose though because, I do get a couple of things there from time to time.

When I was a kid we had a store called "pick 'n save" it was awesome, with a little bit of everything.

There has not been a K-mart in north Texas sense I was really little, and the Sears in the mall near me went under, I think last year and it was one of the only thing left in the mall, the mall only has a few sad looking stores in it now days so it will probably be going down at some point soon.
