As some of you know, I've been slowing moving my collection from Toronto to Vancouver over the last few years. On my recent trip, I decided I was going to unbox all my G3's and get rid of the plastic that takes up too much room. The only reason none of my G3's had been opened before was that I had no place to put them, so I kept them in their boxes.

Here's where the rant comes in. I can't believe how ridiculous the packaging on G3's is. So much waste. Gobs of tape, plastic and twisty ties. And why on earth were they all packaged differently. It took forever to free them from their packages and try to preserve the cardboard parts. I can't for the life of me figure out why they just didn't package them all on cards like they used to. Also, I debated about even keeping the "card" part because most of them don't even have a back story. It took me a while to love and appreciate the G3's, this would have happened sooner if Hasbro had been smart about their packaging and marketing.

YOU MONSTER!! :frankie:
Of course I’m kidding, but for real you’ll Give some people heart palpitations talking about de-boxing like that. ;p

I kinda find it funny and slightly ironic that I’m the one who encouraged you to free the G3’s. Mainly because I’m the odd-ball who likes to keep as much as I can in box because I love the box art.

(PS: Chicken Pie is still safe affixed to her bucket.)

Apparently Hasbro has finally decided to do something to reduce the massive waste involved with their packaging. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joanve...game-over-for-plastic-packaging/#6fb45e08616e

I find this most welcome. I have damaged toys getting them out of their plastic prisons.

I hate to admit that I still keep the packaging (the cardboard backing) because that little bunny in me hopes maybe one day they go back to having mail in premiums and I'll want the ISBN numbers. Heh. Can't blame a bun for wishing!

Free the Chicken Pie!

Thanks for posting this link. It makes me feel much better about Hasbro. By the time I released about 20 G3's (took me a couple hours!) I had filled the recycling bin like three times!

Amen! It was a nightmare getting G3s out of their boxes. I strongly suspected Hasbro of having shares in a tape company during that time.

I don’t know if you’ve gotten there yet, but around year 3 (if I remember right) they started putting paper leaflets into the Canadian packaging with the backcard “stories” of all the ponies from the set together. These are quite cute, and better than the backcards.

I hope your ponies haven't been damaged when you de-boxed them. In most G3 packaging, there were those horrible plastic "pedestals" for ponies hoofs (hoofs were inserted inside them)… This gave a bad fate to ponies with decorated legs (like cutie cascades or Pretty Patterns)… when I removed two of them from that plastic base, part of their cutie marks were rubbed away! (this happens when a pony has been in box for a long time) ...And how about those elastic strings around legs? Their signs remains on the body!!
