Hi guys.

I've been working on a custom order for @Luvmlp for awhile now. She commissioned me to create 2 customs for her. The first custom held the paint perfectly fine! While the second custom, did not. :( every time I try to repaint this pony, it bubbles and peels! I've tried different paints, sealers, even paint brushes! I'm very upset that this custom didn't work out as I had hoped. I put so much time into her! Heck, I even had the hair sellers cancel my order! I had to search for all new hair!

Here is the pony in it's current state. Even her cutie marks discolored. :(

Do you prime the pony before you paint?

I’ve read that some ponies require you to prime and prep the vinyl before painting.

Otherwise I really don’t know but it’s super frustrating what your going through. Especially when you’ve re-rooted and gone through all that effort.

Yes. I even primed her:(

It is supper frustrating. Esp. Being this pony is a custom order that has been a long time in the making, and a lot of work went into her:(

Ah well, I'll be making a new pony for my customer anyway.

Well darn! Sorry, I couldn’t be more help!! She is absolutely beautiful still, I’d love to see your finial product when it’s finished.

I would say maybe pm @LightningSilver-Mana who has a LOT of experience painting up them ponies?

I had a pigment that was a periwinkle that was just a throw away pigment no matter how I tried it so sometimes it could just be the brand or age of paint

But with general white paint jobs, I get good results, but it's because I build up approximately 6 layers of white gesso (allowing every layer to dry fully before applying the next) then when the gesso looks solid, I only have to do about 2 layers of the actual white paint

Also allowing every layer of paint to dry before applying the next, is needed

If you're already doing all of that, I'd suggest switching brands of paint and avoid buying the really large containers of acrylics as those go both chunky and soupy, quick

(We don't want to coat our ponies in grandma's chunky soup!)

Thank you! I know, she is so beautiful . I guess I'll list her at a super discounted rate. Maybe someone would like her!

I never thought about gesso! I will definitely try that!

Other then that, I've done everything else that you've advised, including trying different brands of paint, and not buying large containers of acrylic. The large containers certainly do get rather clumpy!

Indeed I had to he careful with customs prior to discovering gesso

You can find it at Michael's or Jo-Ann Fabrics

The brand I have at the moment is Daler*Rowney and it says Acrylic Gesso on the label

I think they're around $10.00 a container

listen to the oh wise lighting

I'd buy her if I could @NsMLPonies . She's pretty. I have always had to put a clear coat on all the very few customs I've done. Whether gloss or matte, just to smooth and cement. @LightningSilver-Mana really is a custom guru, though. Definitely take her advice first. ;)

If you would like her, I'd sell her at a super low discounted rate! I basically just want to make my material costs back lol
