I’m not 100% sure where this thread should be posted so apologies if it’s wrong!

So I bought myself a re-rooting kit and the correct hair for re-hairing my Brightglow. It is so much harder than the tutorials make it look! I’ve gone cross-eyed already and have done maybe 10 plugs (poorly too, I think) and I think I’ve missed a couple. Brightglow being semi-transparent makes it difficult to see the holes.

I’m wondering if anyone stateside would be willing to re-hair her for me if I send all the supplies. I would pay shipping both ways and whatever you think is a fair price for your time. Message me with details if interested.

Don’t give up on her!! I promise re-rooting isn’t as difficult as it seems at first.

I am working on filming a tutorial for it too. I’d offer my help but I live in Canada.

Any tips for a newbie then? I’ll keep plugging away at it as I have time. (Yes, pun intended!) It doesn’t help that I have 2 cats who were trying to help!

Are you using the tool method or the knot method? I recently rehaired a pony using the tool and it was quite fast, though I did break a needle because the plug I made was too big for the hole o_O I would help out with the rehair but I’m also scared I may struggle with the plastic as well... maybe shine a flashlight in her head? Or put pins where the holes are to mark them (sewing pins with white/colored pearl ends)?

I’m using the tool. My main trouble is getting the hair on the tool! But the flashlight and pin idea may be helpful! I’ll try that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, I struggled with that too. Have you tried maybe wetting the strand slightly?

P.S if you’d like, I could take on rerooting her ;) Seems scary, but looks like a fun challenge!

I did try wetting the strands. In fact I had part of the hank floating in water to sort of separate it out (pretty sure I saw a tutorial that suggested that but can’t find it now) then I had a kitty trying to drink it!

If you want to give it a go I’d love the help! Message me if you want a go!

So the easiest way to work with hair when re-rooting is to work with wet hair. I usually dunk my whole hank in a small Rubbermaid for storage container, then I leave the middle of the hank in the water and the end out (this keeps the whole hank from getting too wet but keeps it easy to work with.

Then I take a small amount of the hank and drape it over the pony head. Position it so the hank you have is roughly Centered on the head, holding both ends tight use your tool to kind of catch a few hairs and place it in the holes. I typically work front to back.

I will work on rooting a pony tomorrow and take photos to help better show what I’m saying. ;)

I’ll just say that it’s probably a lot harder to see the holes on a glow n show than on a regular matte pony. One thing I do is stick a thumbtack in the hole I’m going to be rerouting next while I’m loading the hair onto the tool. This makes the plug hole slightly larger temporarily and it’s a bit easier to see and helps prevent breaking your needle.

Getting the hang of rehairing can take a while, but please don't give up!

I rehaired one last year in alt. colors for a friend, but I use the knot method (if you want something that's more.. complicated and tardy).
