Hi all, Star Dagger's the name. Picture it as a cutie mark, it's RAD.

I thought my mother had gotten rid of all of my old ponies, but she recently passed away and I found them at the back of her closet. I am so excited to get into this community, and I am looking for folks who love the original MLP line who might be interested in buying, selling and trading.

Where do I go, what do I do, how do I know if I have a rare or desired pony... HOW DO I DO THISSSSS???????

Also... Barbies.

My first question is: hair / bathing. I have my ways of reviving frizzy hair from childhood, but I am sure there are *best practices* for buying and selling, tips and tricks... I was thinking baby shampoo for the bathing, thoughts???

Hello, welcome.

Firstly, I’m sorry to hear about your mother but I’m happy to hear you found some of your cherished childhood toys.

If you post pictures I’m sure we can all help you to identify your ponies and help with pricing.

the best place to get help with cleaning and restoring a pony would be the My Little Pony Preservation Project. This is a great resource for fixing and cleaning all kinds of ponies you may have in your childhood collection.

The biggest thing would be to try and not submerge your ponies into water. If you do the metal washers Hasbro used for tail anchors can start to rust (if they haven’t already rusted). If you have to bathe the pony it’s always best to open her up and remove her tail and washer and clean them separately. Here’s a photo of what can happen in a pony with rust from a restoration I did last year:

Welcome! Skybreeze has done some excellent restoration and customization, so she knows what she's talking about. As for identification and how hard to find a pony is, you can always ask. Mylittlewiki.org mlpmerch.com and strawberryreef.com are good resources, too.

Welcome! Glad to see I'm not the only newbie! If you want identification and cleaning tips, ponyland press is another great resource.

Welcome to the herd

Welcome! I'm in a similar boat, also recently having rediscovered my love for G1s and learning how to restore, buy, sell, etc. This place has been really helpful so far!

Welcome to the MLPTP :) Yes, everything everyone has suggested above! There are some great websites mentioned to help you and feel free to post with anything else you may think of. We here love to talk pony!

AAAAHHHHH! OMG I was just here in bed feeling sad and achy (just moved most of her stuff out of her place, ouch) and then I come here and you are all sparkly and kind and with PRACTICAL ADVICE APPLICABLE TO MY QUESTIONS!!! A balm to my soul: instant joy and appreciation.

Yes... my mom died. It feels so weird to type that. It was a sudden event - she was 78, vegan, ballroom dancer, the very picture of health, hosted us for Christmas dinner... she had a fall / suffered a stroke. After a short stay in hospital in early January she passed away.

Folks: imagine losing your mom, followed by 6 weeks of intense events, the big emotions, the sheer labor (emotional and physical) involved in sorting aaaalllll her the worldly possessions, while filling out government forms and going to bank appointments...

Then right at the end of all of that (angel chorus / rainbow beam of light): you find your childhood Ponies at the back of her closet.

Hooray for you, beautiful people. You cheered me up. And three cheers for My Little Pony!

Ponies in neat rows in boxes ready to be cleaned *properly*, clothing and accessories all in a bag to be sorted out... and a few surprises ya might appreciate.

:winkpony:

If I want to share the process with pictures - like a story that can be followed? - what's the best way to do that here in the forums?

I love the top right box with pony tails! Posting pictures as you go would be great!

I'm sorry for your loss. I really can't imagine what you've had to go through. I'm glad you're here, though.

I know it's an overwhelming, and both physically and emotionally draining process...dealing with a close passing, not cleaning ponies ;) although there have been times....LOL but particularly when it's an unexpected death, I feel like there is so much more to process on top of going through all the arrangements. I'm glad our favorite plastic colored ponies have brought some light to this sad time. We would love to watch your pony project, please feel free to share pics of your progress and any questions. The MLP discussion page or show and tell pages would be appropriate :)

While I can’t even imagine what your going through, I know I will be a literal disaster when the time comes for my mom. But I can offer friendship and support here for you. :xmashug: As you’ve already seen we are a friendly and supportive group and while the love of MLP brought us all here, the friendships gained last.

I look forward to seeing your girls all cleaned up again. Enjoy the process of taking the time and care to restore them back to their former glory.
