So obviously direct sunlight and ponies don’t mix, but just how much care do you put into display?
My G1’s don’t want to be locked in a closet anymore (albeit carefully sorted into separate totes in single layers etc) but I don’t want sun damage risk for my 3 MOC (which already have some signs of trouble with the adhesive) or some of the more rare gals I have (if anything happened to my 4.99 thrift store Rapunzel I’d never be able to replace her).
So-
Glass display case? Tinted? Wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight? How much indirect sunlight is also too much?

This wasn’t so complicated when I lived in Washington, but Southern California means I get a lot of sunlight streaming in year round so I want to make sure I don’t get my gals displayed only to realize in a year I’ve done irreversible damage.

Keep pony displays out of the way of sunlight if you can. Curtains will help too.

My display is a wood-glass display case, and it works most of the time (mainly because the curtains in that room are always closed ). I’ve wanted to hang like an UV-protective (?) curtain in front of it, kind of the same way as a shower curtain, so I could move the curtain to see the ponies, and close it back when the windows are open. Though, maybe just a tinted filter would work without so much hassle? I don’t really have any MOCs or rares to worry about, can’t really help there :( Good luck!

Mine are in my bed room and never exposed to sunlight. I’m never in there during the day so I keep my blinds & curtains closed.

Only the occasion I have my windows open it’s never at the height of sunlight hours so it’s never direct. Otherwise they’re out on picture shelves on my walls and I have yet to have problems with sun fading/bleaching/damage in general. But my girls are well ventilated which helps too.

I’m a bit obsessive about this, and I’m lucky enough to have a pony room. The room has blackout curtains that are always closed, and the door is kept closed too (my cats are chewers). There’s no overhead light in that room so we had to get creative about lighting - we strung led xmas lights all the way around the room (led is great because they don’t emit heat - heat can help speed up some plastic damage). So the lights are only on when we’re in the room and they aren’t particularly strong, but you can still see everything.

Some pony colours, like fading pink hair, will eventually fade even in indirect sunlight, but keeping them out of direct sunlight will prevent most of the damage.

Breaking the news to Posey that she has to live in a cave will be tough . . .

I’ve been thinking about a glass display case on a wall that has smaller high up windows so there won’t be direct sunlight, but it definitely sounds like some of my harder to find or sun sensitive ladies have no choice but closet life. I wouldn’t mind partially curtaining the case, but I use the natural sunlight in that room so a zero light room isn’t an option. At least I can have dust protection and cat protection. The fur kids aren’t bad chewers, but my young girl kitty adores pink ponies (she has her own g3 Pink Sunsparkle). Time to sort the herd into “indirect sunlight ok” and “are you sure it’s not a variant” piles haha.

Currently I only have g3 stuff displayed so while I work on my g1 display here’s my favorite display case I’ve gotten so far with all my random blind bags.
It’s a baseball bat display case and perfect size for the tiny!72BB3A4C-7674-46F6-A59C-7D227E47201A.jpeg

Would that be big enough for the regular ponies? I have 3 cats so I’m looking for a display with glass to protect them from fur and dust.
