G1 Some musings, questions and rambles

So, new here. Hiya

I came across some G1 ponies at a thrift store, and it resparked my love for these guys. I've always had a fondness for them, my favorite toys as a kid! So I go into my basement and dig out my bin of ponies. I spent probably too long cleaning them up, brushing hair and checking values on ebay. What a rabbit hole!

I have about 50 G1 ponies, some doubles, few damaged (that might be good as bait or parts?)

Just some questions and curiosities since I'm playing catch up.

What's the value difference between flat-foot and conclave foot originals? I know flat-foot came out first, is it worth a bit more?

Whats the rarest (open, unboxed) G1 pony?

What paint do you use to touch up some of the ponies and/or customize?

Some of my ponies don't stand well anymore. Any advice how I can fix this?

I may plant some more questions or thoughts here as I go along. I miss this feeling of nostalgia lol

Mlppreservationproject can answer most of you questions. Most would probably say sweet scoops or rapunzel is the rarest USA non-prototype or factory error release. You can help your ponies stand by warming the plastic of their legs with hot water or a hair dryer and then using a dowel, paper towels or other non-transferring object to hold the legs apart. They tend to get squished together, especially in storage, and generally that’s why they don’t stand. Many collectors would rather have an unaltered, slightly damaged pony than one that has been touched up, so it entirely depends on the pony and it’s desirability. Flat foot can be harder to find in mint condition, but there’s not all that much difference in pricing. If you want specific information please give us photos. We love photos!

I made the display a bit better for the ponies. Yay.

I also ordered upside down Apple Jack. I love Stranger Things and had to get it.

There’s one purple baby with pink hair that has no symbol. Any idea what it was? Not sure if someone cleaned it off or it was sold intentionally. Also added a photo of her

Nice collection and welcome pony friend! That's baby Ember and didn't have a symbol to begin with so you're good.

The baby with no symbol is Baby Ember! She was intentionally sold with no symbol as a mail order pony you could get in three colors. Solid blue, pink with purple hair, and light purple with pink hair. They finally sold her with a symbol when she was released in a set with a cassette tape! In which shes all purple.

Not sure if you know but StrawberryReef.com helps a lot with pony identification. You can search by color of pony. Mylittlewiki.org has a lot of information about them too. The wiki doesnt list everything but it helps!

Your display looks great! Lots of the classics. Love it!

Yes, FF ponies are generally worth a bit more, but value also comes down to condition as well.

Whats the rarest (open, unboxed) G1 pony?

Any pony from South Africa, they regularly fetch over $1000+, as well as the Mail Order pony Rapunzel in the US.

Some of my ponies don't stand well anymore. Any advice how I can fix this?
