Howdy, I'm Syrcaid! I thought I'd share some of my drawing tips with you before I posted my latest works!
This is how I typically draw G1 MLP heads. The proportions here should be good for most adult, grown MLP faces. From all the illustrations I've gathered and stared at for hours, typically ears are very kitty shaped and sit above and close to the edge of the eye. Where the eye stops near the back of the head, the ear begins upward.
I noticed the eyes of most G1 pony illustrations for coloring books or box art have the eye very close to center of the skull and almost always upright or looking upward no matter the position of the muzzle. Perhaps to reflect on how the actual figures looked. Eye shine dots usually met up with the upper lashes. Lower lashes mirror uppers horizontally.
These rules aren't set in stone, obviously! These are the "rules" I set for myself so the characters look uniform when I draw them.
