So... does anyone else have a seasonal shedder? I brushed my boy. He only needs it every other month. However, twice a year, he sheds much more heavily. What to do with the fur? We put it out in the yard. (Left it in a dog shaped pile, lol) I'm hoping that birds can use it and it's biodegradable.

Any thoughts? Note: I wouldn't leave it out there without a sizable yard and solid fencing. It shouldn't overwhelm any neighboring yards.
This is why I have Shih Tzu’s exclusively now. Gone are the days spent furminating my pug’s double coat. Gone are the days I have to lint roll my clothes before going out. Gone are the days of dog hair tumbleweeds being discovers right after cleaning. I do not miss the shedding at all. I do however miss walking the without worrying if the dog will need a bath when we get home or if there’s burrs attached to them.

There are definite pros and cons to both. I didn't want the grooming needs of a dog with hair rather than fur. Yes, I could do it myself, but it can be lots of work. Schipperkes don't shed too badly. (Except twice a year ;) ) Wesley also sheds terribly at the vet. Poor guy has anxiety there. I also didn't want a dog that didn't suit the climate here. If not for his leg, Wesley is well suited to our weather. Another odd thing, I have mostly dark colored clothing, so his fur blends in. :lolpony:

All that said, pugs, labs, and corgis, lots of the short hair double coat or no, are the most shedding dogs. If I'm going to deal with that much fur, i might as well get a Newfoundland. I would love one. <3 Shih tzus have a as special place in my heart, yorkies and westies, too. They need so much attention as far as brushing, regular shave downs, etc.

I wish I could have them all! I wouldn't be able to take care of the most high maintenance, though. The 11 year old, high strung, sensitive, individual, that is my girl.

@Tak - Zephyr was the worst as far as shedding. His “inner” coat was fawn and his “outter” coat was black. So it never mattered what colour my clothes/bedding was it showed no matter what.

Yes! Shih Tzu’s are still a LOT of work and maintenance but at least they don’t shed. Clover and Fred get brushed 2-3 daily and groomed every 4-6 weeks. (I can groom myself but it’s a lot of work and my Mom and I decided this time we would just take them somewhere. Granted I was thankful to have the grooming skill/know-how during this lock down, other wise Fred would be a terrible hot mess right now. Lol)

Wesley's undercoat is grey. It starts to come out in clumps when he has a seasonal shed. It looks terrible. Poor guy.

My mom has an 18 month old bernese mountain dog. Her fur has actually broken their vacuum! Giant dogs have so much love. They're worth the shedding.

Eeeeeeee! bernese mountain dog! They're sooo cute! I just want to kiss and hug them!
As for the vacuum I highly recommend the Bissell power force helix it is THE BEST pet hair vacuum that you can buy! For me they last 10 years minimum with once a month cleaning. and they never lose suction!
Plus a percentage of all Bissell vacuum sales go to pet charities!
No I'm not sponsored by Bissell I just like there vacuum that much
