So after getting interested in Monster High during my latest dolly kick, I was just browsing through the selection at Amazon.com and saw that Nefera de Nile's current price stands at around $115.

...

Are you KIDDING ME???

I saw literally dozens of these in stores when they first came out! Dozens! I even pondered getting one because Cleo was nowhere to be seen at the time! And now you're telling me
1. If I had bought one back then, she'd be worth a hundred bucks now, and
2. If I want one now, I have to fork over that much cash??? HUUUUURRRRRRRRRRR

And now I'm kicking myself. Mentally, of course, I don't want to end up with a broken leg or sumthin'.

This did get me to think of other things I didn't buy when I had the chance and are now impossible to find or extremely expensive. Or both.

The first one I remember is Hula Hair Teresa. I wanted this doll for two years before I had the chance to buy her, only for her to disappear as soon as I convinced my parents to get her for me. 11 year-old me was devastated. It's not the worst case, though, since she does show up on eBay from time to time, and her price is kinda-sorta accessible... But since I don't live in the U.S., it gets doubled due to shipping, and makes it hard for it to be a light-hearted purchase. Not to mention other things keep getting in the way. I haven't given up, though!

Do you have experiences like this? You pass on getting something and later on realize if you hadn't, it would've saved you a lot of trouble? It can be related to anything, up to and including ponies. :)

I have this problem a lot of the time. I find something that I like, but then I decide that either don't really want it or that I don't need it, at least not right now. Then it disappears and I never, ever see it again.

This happened when I first started collecting G4s. I didn't have any ponies except for Applejack yet, so I had a lot of options for what to buy. I decided to get the Euro exclusives Daisy Dreams and Rainbow Flash first, because it was two ponies for the price of one. Thinking I'd be able to find it again easily, I then put off getting the Sweet Slumbers playset with Star Dreams, because I didn't think it was worth it to pay that much for one baby pony and a double of one that I already had. Looking back, it was a stupid decision – there was only one playset and there were about, I don't know... 50 of each of the international exclusives? In fact, they had so overstocked on the exclusives that they alone took up an entire shelf AND there were still more packed up on top of each of the shelving units.

The only thing worse than not buying the playset then and there was that I decided to buy a Rarity instead.

Yes... I gave up an international exclusive playset for a mane six pony...

I came back a week later and there was no Star Dreams to be found anywhere. It's now seven months later and I've looked at almost every toy store in my city, and even at a few in the next city over, but I've never seen it again. I'd have to import either her or the playset (and shipping fees are insane even through the post office), but I also don't find her for sale often, loose or otherwise... and when I do, typically she gets sold off instantly.

Thankfully, it seems she's being sold again in a new Rainbow Power playset. Except that it's on Kohl's website, which for some unexplained reason I can't access, probably due to the location of my IP address. I don't think it's likely that anyone would purchase the set for the sole purpose of deboxing it and reselling Star Dreams, either, so I have no idea if I'll even be lucky enough to get my hands on her this time.

On the flip side, I have had other collecting experiences where I leapt on purchasing something only to be frustrated with myself for it later, either because I looked at it and thought "why did I even buy this?" (in the case of my Bratzillaz) or because I found it again elsewhere at a lower price (in the case of a number of my boyfriend's games).

And that was my 600th post! :flutter2: Yay. :p

600! WOOOT!!

I'm with you both. I've learned to buy it when I see it or prepared to be bummed. I only have one store available to me that sells Ponies in any variety (we have a Dollar general and a Family Dollar, but they only get singles of the Man Six), which is the dreaded WalMart. I have to shop there because there's nothing else. They get things way after other stores, but often don't get it at all. I'm better off convincing poor Poopsie to wander into the bigger towns and perhaps even (gasp) the cities!

My latest example was at Toys R Us. I was hoping to find one of the marked down Chinese Year of the Horse Pinkie Pies. Nope. But I bought the Mrs Cake bakery set and the Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy spa set. I passed up the new Deathlok figure, because they had tonnes. Now I am the worldest biggest female fan of Deathlok. Probably the only one too, because he's an ugly cuss. But now I'm kicking myself, because I can't find him anywhere and will have to buy him offline. And I need two, one to open, one to keep sealed. I like some of my Deathloks locked up. It's safer for humanity that way.

But it happens to me constantly. Never got Fashion Style Applejack because of it, and many more. What's a rabbit to do?

For right now, this is pretty much the story of my life.

Most recent was going to Toys r Us and seeing a Pinkie Pie and Princess Gold Lily set. They had roughly 15, so I said "next week after I get paid". Now I can't find them anywhere at all, an online I'm consistently seeing them sell for about $15 for just Gold Lily.

I feel your pain!

A lot of times I pass up things because either I didn't realize their value at the time, or some evil wave brainwashed me into leaving the treasures behind. I'm still kicking myself because I didn't pick up the two American Girl dolls that I saw at goodwill one time... I don't know why I left them!

amazon is always expensive, give it some time to cool down and you'll see the prices dropped to something reasonable when those greedy individual sellers move onto some other kid's toy to Try to exploit

I tried to find my kiddo a Skylanders Wham-Shell because he was nowhere to be found at any store at the time and refused to pay Amazon sellers increasingly stupid $100+ prices and I wish I coulda snubbed it in their faces when I paid the regular price at TrU when we finally found him riiight around Christmas time. Amazon sellers also wanted me to shell out $50 for Tree Rex and we found a seller on ebay who was selling them for a little less then ten bucks a pop.

she'll show up again for sure and MH has always had really weird doll distribution. My daughter was veeery lucky to get Toralei and Venus McFlytrap when she did and now we're seeing them everywhere

At a flea market. I left the Inspirational words Pinkie pie and she was very cheap, like a dollar or so! I regret it, but we can have untill next week, right?
