What do you look like?

Only if your open to it. I notice every one gets the majestic, cute or pretty animals.

Hey Foof, someone did write a book about the spirit totems people don't want to deal with. Can't remember what it was called.
I also have a rat, a skunk, a turtle, and a beaver. Lots of people wouldn't like to get any of those, but I like them just fine. The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned. :)

I mean you don't hear people talking about cockroach or mosquito spirit animal and the lessons they teach.

I like spiders.... another reason that spirit tend towards the more attractive animals is that they usually represent some part of the human's inner motivation and personality. We are mammals and tend to share more traits with other mammals. Just a generalization from studying spirit quests, animals and their possible meanings. This is not saying that other animals aren't possible.

They are. But I don't see them as a construct of ourselves. They are a sentient spirit. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe someone once said that they are THE Spirit of that particular creature. Perhaps @evilbunnyfoofoo might know better then I do?

Sometimes I wonder if people's egos just get in the way and they ignore what their true guides have to teach, because it's not cool or pretty enough for them? Disregarding the fact that every creature can teach us something whether we like them or not.

I'm not saying that about anyone here just fyi. I used to frequent a spiritual forum and it was sort of a disgruntled running joke.

I'm sorry @Leave a Whisper I'm terrible at getting the correct meaning into my words. I do believe each one is sent to teach something that you need to know or to make a point that you're missing. I've just read that they are usually connected to you in some way. Not really a construct. Just some repressed bit of yourself, a long set aside or ignored issue, or just something that you need to shed light on.

What are you apologizing for dearest Tak? :xmashug: Everyone has their own theories and beliefs.

I'm sorry if I came off rude. That wasn't my intention.

You weren't rude. What I mean just isn't going into words. Their school strike, debt, and hitting my head (not hard enough to be concussed thank goodness!), has got me all backwards cognitively. It's part of why I haven't been on as much.

Why did this post twice?

Hay Leave a Whisper earlier you said you did a vision quest to see your spirit animal, and I'm kind of curious as to what you saw during it, because I have a feeling that the environment in mine will be different.

Because you are a bad person.

I put your laundry in the wash. YOU'RE WELCOME.

I don't remember. Seems like you're right. So many books have been written on the subject you could fill a room with them, I bet. I only know what i learned from my various mentors and in the sweat lodge.

Funny isn't most people's animals are lovely, and most telling... impressive? Last time I was in the sweat lodge a huge ugly, drool dripping boar came to me and told me what I needed to hear in no uncertain terms. I have been visited by turtles, snakes, hyenas, vultures, and horses. Some are ugly, but all of them had purpose and a symbolism which I applied to them. I think appearance only is impressive when the person the entity visits *Needs* them to be impressive. I know one lady was shocked when we were talking about our experiences after a sweat and I said Vulture had come to me. All she could think was that vultures are ugly and eat carrion. To me, vultures are beautiful. They are majestic and serve an important purpose. Whether we find it appealing or not, scavengers are important, and I took his message to heart. She could only see face value. She would have learned nothing from him if he came to her. Of course, she always one upped everyone at inipi when it came to visions. She always had some beeeeeeeautiful maiden or a fine white horse or a unicorn or something. She wasn't having visions, which to me is the purpose of sweat, but she was playing out fantasies. I shouldn't judge her though, because she was getting what she needed, I suppose. We see what we want to see, need to see. She needed to be 'special'. I just needed guidance.

I haven't been to sweat lodge in far too long. I really need to arrange a visit. One day, I intend to build an inipi here, in my woods.

@evilbunnyfoofoo Boar is such a fierce, proud beast. I like them a lot.

I think Vultures and Condors are such magnificent, graceful fliers, plus not only are they nature's waste disposal, there are also some great myths about them in Egypt and South America.

I like snakes and hyenas too.

This thread is "what you look like" so here goes. If it offends then, by all means, delete it. These are a special part of me. Please do not duplicate.

@Tak I love them all! What great tattoos, especially the pony and wolf!

See, this is why I love it here. You guys are so much more open minded and insightful than the people out dere in da cold world.

@evilbunnyfoofoo that wolf is from a charcoal of my little dog Wesley. :D underneath it says "DPR Wesley Sugarfoot"
He's all fancy and registered so he needed a unique name. Dpr is dread pirate roberts, and sugarfoot is because the bottom of one foot has all white hair between his toes. Evelyn said it looked like he stepped in sugar.

I also concur with @Leave a Whisper about all creatures. They all have a meaningful purpose in the life cycle on earth. Some that ppl revile most are actually quite amazing.

Thanks LaW. :)

@Tak - is Wesley on your foot? If so, how much did that hurt? I’m looking at getting my pupper’s paw prints on my feet but haven’t yet because I worry about the pain. Lol Dumb because I already have two tattoo’s...

Yes, that's my foot. I fell asleep on and of during it. It really depends on your personal perception of pain. I've had sunburns hurt more. There are quite a few who say it hurts more since there's less tissue over the nerves, but, as someone with chronic pain who refuses meds, the pain of the tattoo wasn't enough to drown out the other, stronger, daily pains.

Yeah. I’ve found that since I’ve started on a new medication for my MS (specifically) I feel pain more than I used to. My doctors have tried “everything” to help maintain my pain but nothing really helps anymore. So I don’t know, lol
