In many articles/youtube videos, they refer to pony collectors as bronies. We are totally different! bronies dont collect vintage my little ponys, they watch the show! does this make anyone else annoyed?

It annoys the crap outta me.

I’ve thought about this a lot, mostly because my friend group and some family members have asked about my opinions on the term “Brony.”

I think my biggest pet peeve about it is when people use the term to define the entire fan base. It’s an easy mistake and faux pas for those who are not active in the community to make. I do feel that we, as collectors and fans, have the right to educate people about the differences.

Now to say that a Brony is strictly someone who only watches the show is past tense these days. A lot of the Brony fan base are also collectors (some of the biggest). They also host some of the largest communities and contributors to the MLP fan base. Bronies have done a lot of good for MLP and it’s fans. Time and time again I see them supporting each other and doing a lot of charity & community work. I think in a general sense they’re no different than everyone here and I’m happy to have them apart of our pastel butt-symboled equine world.

Having said that, I’m really not down with the “kink” side of the Brony fandom. I, personally, don’t understand and want nothing to do with it but to each their own I suppose? I do also wish the main stream media would not focus so much on this part of the Brony culture and look more at the amazingly wonderful parts more. Like honestly, if no one is getting hurt, what does it matter if a bunch of men enjoyed a cartoon intended for children?

In all I don’t care. Call me a Brony if you want, your wrong by definition but if that’s how you need to say “hey she likes MLP as an adult” then so be it. Meh.

Why does someone have to be defined by what they enjoy? Why do people always have to play identity politics? I refer to my collecting as a hobby and I don't identify by it. I'm just a person who enjoys it, just like I enjoy other things in my life. So when people say Brony, I KNOW they are NOT talking about me because I am not defined by my hobbies and pasttimes. As Skybreeze mentions above, I am just a person who enjoys MLP as an adult (as well as other nostalgia from time to time).

It bothers me a bit when people refer to me as a "brony" simply because I feel like that term stems primarily from FiM and kind of erases involvement in other generations. I prefer being called a collector, but over the years I've been less picky about it. Most people just call me a weirdo, I can't argue with that XD

I do think there's a distinct difference between certain parts of the fanbase, but there's a lot of overlap as well. Some bronies are also collectors, some collectors are also bronies, some are exclusively bronies or collectors or whatever else. I'd rather have my hobby be carefree enough to not really care one way or the other, so it doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

I prefer it to pegasister. I guess as a FIM collector it does not bother me as I am called a brony . I don't like the darker side of the community it over shadows the good that Brony have done. I have been a active member of the charity part and other project they have done. ITs just said when a few bad apple spoil the whole bunch. I think if you prefer collector or something else you should respect the wishes of the person. But don't think all Bronies are bad please.

:lolpony::lolpony: Pegasister is sooooo funny. Every time I see it somewhere I giggle to myself. But if someone says it to me irl I zone out and think they’re talking about witchcraft all of a sudden. *facepalm*

(I have a tendency to zone out a lot lately.)

Pegasister? I like it. Lol.

My daughter and I are in no way "bro" so I try to just say collectors, pony lovers, or everypony.

A friend recently referred to me on FB as a Brony and I may have lost my sh*t. I mean, I joked about it, but I was pretty darn clear that she should never call me that again. Brony and Cutie mark are two terms which drive me coo coo for cocopuffs. I've only met one Brony, years ago and it did not go well. I wouldn't hold this against other Bronies, but they are a sub group of collectors that I don't identify with. Although I have a large collection of G4's, my love and true collection is the G1's.

I admit it, call me a bigot, whatever... when I hear the word 'brony' i think of the nasty dudes that draw pony ****. I am a horrible, horrible person with no morals, but ain't no way I wanna be equated to people who like X-rated equines.

I've been in their forums. They aren't like us.

Evelyn stumbled across one where fluttershy was cursing and beating up other ponies. I shortly afterwards stumbled on some of their "fan fiction". Yeah. We aren't bro anything's. That's when I made use of parental controls and flat out banned YouTube.

Oh, the questions my girl has asked over the years. She's a very well informed 9 year old. A 3rd grade boy was bullying her on the bus, so she told him that he just couldn't understand because his brain was the size of an atom. She was joking, but he didn't get it and smacked her in the face with his backpack.

That was a pretty good burn Mini-Takerina. Sorry she got smacked in the face though. I can't stand bullies. :madpony:

Obsidi was being harassed by her cousin's obnoxious friend, we all told him to cool it, but she eventually got so agitated she screamed at him to leave her alone and slugged him in the gut.:satisfied:

When she was 6 Evelyn told the boy in line in front of her at school to stop splashing mud onto her new skirt or she would choke him. She'd already asked several times, so, when he still didn't stop, she made good on her promise. She only had her hands on him for five seconds approximately, but that was when the teacher finally decided to pay attention and she got half a day of suspension. She knows she's not supposed to physically retaliate. I told her words were better and to go to an adult so that she won't get in trouble. Now she goes around calling kids pusilanimous and meinfteir.

I've never thought about it, I guess I don't socialize enough to get into this position. I have very few internet-only friends and the people who know me in person have been properly educated by myself to know the difference and my friends here obviously know the difference and really there isn't much left. I don't use social media cause I just don't care that much to want to share or know what's happening with other people. The people I care enough to share things with I can do without the use of social media and I don't really give a hoot about opinions of those outside of that.

Sometimes, no matter how unPC or societally incorrect it is, you gotta paste a bully smack in their mug. So if a Brony wants to draw bewbs on our Ponies, we gotta sock 'em.

I mean, they can do what they want to their Ponies, but I think then they should never be allowed to sell them because eeeeeewwwwwww
