What flaw is your kryptonite?

I, personally, can't handle pony cancer. I let those get customized. So much is fixable, but is cancer?

What is your pony flaw downfall?

For whatever reason, I'm actually ok with pony cancer. They just look like beauty marks to me, I think all of my G1s have at least one cancer spot. Then again, I'm cheap, so that's probably why that is.

For me, it's initials on hooves. Sharpie comes off of a lot of things well, but soft vinyl isn't one of them. I mostly collect G3, and I care very deeply (read: way too much) about the conditions of their magnets. The magnets were my favorite thing about them as a kid, and they still are. Legally, toy companies can't use magnets anymore as a gimmick with anything that might end up in a very young child's hands, so the ones that the ponies have are very special to me. They just remind me of a simpler time, I guess.

If a pony has a Sharpied up magnet, I can't do it. I know that when the ponies are standing in a display, nobody except for me would ever know, but that's enough.

I hate, hate, hate haircuts.

Pvc breakdown
Chewed off body parts
Chopped manes

I can live with the first one and still love that pony to bits.

I can send one off to get a new mane, but I try to avoid buying such ponies.

I can't sculpt to save my life.

PVC breakdown - I loath it. I have two LLL dolls who are both going through this right now and it’s making me crazy. (Also annoyed seller never mentioned it.) Good news my Lemondrop has stopped leaking for now.

Chewed/broken off body parts - mostly because I’m too lazy to sculpt new bits for ponies. Lol

Major head/body mismatch - I hate the delicate balance of pulling the mis-matched parts. Out so they can match up in the end. It’s not easy to do.

Otherwise most everything else I can deal (relatively) easy enough.

I'm extremely easygoing about flaws, and I'm willing to at least try to clean up/fix most of them, but I'd say...hmm.

Maybe extreme head/body mismatch? I'm okay if the entirety of the pony is discolored, but if the head and body have an unfixable mismatch it's probably something I'd avoid buying. I had a Sunbeam recently (now being customized) that had not only age marks and mold staining all over her body but also such a severe head/body mismatch that it was virtually impossible to fix outside of a FBR and I'm not fond of how they come out when I do them. So she got customized. I try really hard not to customize anything G1-G3 that I can fix but she was truly a lost cause. Her tail was really nice though so I did save it in case a tailless Sunbeam comes my way in the future, hehe!

Also I'm not really sure if this is considered a flaw but I will completely avoid any pony that looks like someone has attempted acne cream treatment, for obvious reasons. I've seen a few uncommon/rarer ponies up for cheap that had bleached patches and I was like NOPE >u< I don't want to risk my collection for one of those poor souls!

I think maybe PVC breakdown/plasticizer leakage would bother me were it not for the fact that I was used to dealing with 'oozies' (the Breyer horse version of this; I've been calling my leaky ponies this as well now lol) when I was younger so I'm familiar with the whole quarantining procedure hehe. I only have one pony currently dealing with this and that's my FF Butterscotch, who is currently being displayed on the complete opposite side of the room, away from other ponies.

Great question! The big one for me is any kind of brown spots / mold stains, sometimes referred to as "pony cancer." It was heartbreaking seeing it spread on some of my childhood ones!

Sidenote, if you're looking to fix up your ponies, I suggest http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/! ;)

I honestly cannot think of anything.
Now, I have a select few favourite ponies that I'm going to be absolutely picky about because I want them in their most pristine glory, but the vast majority of them can have any flaws. I love restoring and I'm one of those obnoxious purists that believe that 99.9% of ponies labeled as "custom bait" are so NOT custom bait. Any pony can be restored in my eyes. And I enjoy restoring them!
At this point I have two distinct herds:
1. My legitimate collection
2. My restored/majorly flawed ones that are in my weird "sanctuary" lol

There's a little bit of overlap here and there, but I don't generally add the Sanctuary ladies in with my herd count since most are flawed duplicates.

ANYWAYS...

That was an absurdly long way of me saying any flaw is a welcome flaw.

Haircuts, paint loss to symbols and ink marks. However after some recent sun-fading success, the later I am starting to not mind AS much. Haircuts though... Unless it's a minor forelock or tail trim, forget it. I'd rather them have the frizziest hair imaginable than cut hair. Some minor symbol rubs are ok but huge smudges are a deal breaker. Oh, and chew marks! Nope. I'm just not that great at rehairing or restoring such things like bad paint or holes... I'll leave that to the experts and continue to be a picky princess about my ponies. :)

Can't keep an eye on your pets 24/7
I'm just spoiled. My dog won't touch a pony. He'll look and sniff, but he's a pup prince about only chewing on his own toys. With my parents, they never would have let me leave a toy where the pets could get it. My sister's the only one who purposely damaged toys.

Head/body mismatch on G1s. On G2s and G4s you can’t avoid it with some characters, but I can’t deal with it on G1s.

I agree, head/body mismatch! Probably my biggest pet-peeve.

I'm okay with rust, but mold/mildew whatever is a different story. I've got a very sensitive nose so the two times I ever had to clean out a mildewy/moldy pony, uh well...yeah. Lets just say I almost made an offering to the porcelain god.

Rust can cause a nasty smell in some ponies, too. And, I know it's not a "flaw" per se, but I really HATE cigarette smoke-smelling ponies. I'm in the middle of de-smokifying a lot. It takes a lot of time and patience.

Yeah cigarette smoke sucks too. And it can cause stains on light plastic as well.

Yeah, cigarette smoke smell might be a winner. Though I heard of cat pee pony and the munchy filled with *********. For the smoke I just put them in a sealed bag with a bath bomb and dryer sheets, then let them sit for a few months.

It's nice to see what others do. I've put them in bags with kitty litter/dryer sheets in the past. What I've found works best is airing them out outside for a couple days to a week (if it's not raining and they come in at night) and soaking them in a tub with fabric softener for an hour then drying them upside down near a dehumidifier. I'll maybe repeat the process after giving them the smell test. And then put them in a bag with a dryer sheet after they are fully dry for a week. It seems to speed up the process.

I’m joining team head/body mismatch. I know it’s unavoidable sometimes due to how plastics age. But I hate it! My Masquerade has the worst head/body mismatch ever. Anybody want a bait Masquerade to make a custom?
