I don't own any Mexican or Argentinian or Greek pony, but I often see listings of them. They are very expensive but in very poor condition. To me they look too messed up to bid on them.
If I would get one, I couldn't resist to rehair or repaint or whatever.
Are your variants in good or bad shape and don't you ever wonder why they look much worst than the common ponies?

it seems they were just made with poor hair and plastic, so they don't hold up as well as the american/eu ponies. I have some nice mexicans and a very nice argie, so they are absolutely out there :)

A lot of the ponies listed on eBay that appear in poor condition can clean up to look fantastic. Particularly with ponies from Mexico & Argentina, the sellers don't usually clean the ponies before listing them. Also what makes foreign ponies desirable to many collectors is their unique qualities of hair, plastic, paint styles/colors, ect. Rehairing and repainting a foreign variant will greatly decrease its resale value.

I didn't reply to this in ages, but now I have a few variants myself. Some are just in really bad shape. There is a Brazil Gusty in Shy Pose and she has a really bad haircut and no tail anyway. So what can I do with her rather than reroot her hair in the closest colors I can get?
I mean, what could she be worth with this Mohawk? I appreciate some advise on this one because I rather would sell her than to display her like this.

Well my theories are:
1) because some people like to milk others for every penny
2) because it is a region specific look. so that makes it something kinda unique and special to someone in another country and they know collectors will probably pay quite a bit for it.(IMO if your gonna charge big bucks for it, you had better do everything in your power to make sure it looks good before you sell it!)
or
3)all the above

As @KitKatVintage mentioned, they certainly do clean up to look fantastic,

Heres some pics from a Project we did here some time back, they were really bait condition variants restored beautifully. Some pics are no longer there, but theres still quite a few wonderful restorations to see . Just do a quick scroll past the text and you can see a few pics in there :)

One of my favorite things to do is buy nasty Mexico ponies and clean them into NM beauties. They're so cheap because people think they can't be fixed!

It also has to do with where they come from. I know at least a ton of Mexican ponies are sold in flea markets, and before that, the people who sell them find them in huge trash dumps, so the ponies have been sitting in trash for who knows how long! Fewer of the ponies from these countries are sold by collectors or original owners. It'd be interesting to know where a pony has been!

Not sure if I want to know where some of those Mexican and Argentine Ponies have been LOL......... Some of them look like they have been dog toys too LOL

At least I found a few lovely ones and restored my Brazil Gusty. A Mexican Twilight is among my favorites, but I mostly stay with the European Variants like German and Dutch ones. They aren't in too bad condition.

Yes, In amongst the bad ones there are always nice ones luckily. :)
I would love to see a picture of your restored Brazil Gusty.

Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to post a pic from my iPad. This asks for an URL and I have no idea how this works. Normally I just choose a pic on my iPad and post it. Does this forum have an app?

@Capri Sun
The forum is fully responsive so you won't need any app to use the board. You would be browsing the board with "Safari" when you go to post a thread and see the "upload a file" button. You will see the upload a file button come up. "Click on Choose file " You should then see the "take photo or video" or "Choose existing" come up in a blue box at the bottom of the screen.
Click on "Choose existing" and then pick a photo and it will upload into the thread.

Thanks, took me a while to find this button.
I rehaired her with unlucky clover and dusty rose which I compared to her old hair remnants. It's a perfect match.
I also used the original washer for her tail.
You couldn't tell. When you take her head of you can't see much because the opening is really small.
I just love her and prefer a nice looking rehair over a haircut.

Wow, stunning work, she looks fantastic. I agree, she looks so much nicer than with a haircut. Thankyou for sharing her lovely photos :)
