Guest, The MLPTP's Fundraiser and Prize Giveaway will be returning on June 1st! Check out this thread for all the latest news!
I'm bionic now! Mwah haha! (So is Wesley, so maybe we can be a super secret crime fighting team, saving ponies everywhere we go!)
Aassssss yoooou wiiish
You and Wesley are twinsies. Lol
So a few things;
1) Yay!!! I’m so happy your already feeling great post surgery and so soon post op. You truly are a superstar!
2) What tape are they using to adhere the gauze? Is it clear or white? It’s strange they would use tape that your skin reacts to. There’s lots of different tapes they can use, including hypoallergenic ones (which should just be standard practice everywhere).
3) That’s so cool that we use the same and similar protocols for pet surgeries too!! Lol I’m such a nerd, I would’ve totally loved to have watched your surgery. Lol!!!
4) Biological extended families suck. I am more than happy to be your pony sistah!! We are all here for you and happy to help when we can. This is why I love everyone here on this board. *hugs for everyone*
Ok. Random and off topic. It finally hit me just how much my siblings hate me and it hurt a surprising amount. My sister has me blocked on her Facebook. She doesn't want to let me know my nephew. She rarely includes Evelyn. I'm over her hating me. It just hurts to see that she shares so much with so many and she promised to include Evelyn, but she's not. Evelyn only has the one cousin. I hope you all don't mind me adopting you as my pony sisters.
Possible tmi alert on surgery details.
Oh, @Skybreeze you had wanted to know what they used and whatnot. They shaved my vertebrae back after removing the two offensive discs and bone spurs. Then they used cadaver bone to fill in the gaps. I've got six little titanium plates along the sides holding the new, corrected curve and 9 screws holding them in place. They went in with an anterior incision lateral to my trachea and just pushed everything aside to reach the spine. I had a drainage tube for a good 8 hours. They snipped the two stitches holding it on an pulling it out about five minutes before I went home. (It wasn't anywhere near as bad as having the spacer bags removed from my sinuses after my septoplasty.) It was rather similar to swallowing one end of a spaghetti noodle and then having to pull it out. (Always chew your food ) To close up, it's glued and has some butterfly closure stick ons. Then it's just covered with gauze and taped down until Monday morning when I'm getting the tape off asap. I already have a rash from it. My neck actually has a curve now and my arm feels better than it has in over a year, so, very good results. I don't even have a collar of any sort. I'm allowed minor motions. The lifting restriction stays and no reaching.
They used a gauze tape. I've never seen it before and it's supposed to be hypoallergenic. It's 6" wide and looks like gauze, only it's got adhesive on one side. I'm just sensitive to the adhesive itself. The gauzy stuff isn't bad. I even have a reaction to paper tape adhesive and that is by far the least irritating tape. I just need to hold out until tomorrow morning. Then I can take it off and shower. The shower will do wonders for soothing the rash.
I wish I could have watched the surgery, too. Anatomy is fascinating. I was also thinking... I'll never be able to have an mri again, will I? It'd pull on my hardware.
hmmm... we have a tape we use in animal medicine because it doesn’t irritate the skin or hair. If I think of it next time I can send some down to you to use.
Skin reactions when your healing are the worse.
Just read over the thread and got caught up. I have been in Cuba for 8 days and just arrived home this morning. I've been up for 35 hours. I'm so happy the surgery went well and that you are already feeling some improvement. I realize I must have missed something, because I thought you were supposed to have the surgery a few weeks ago. Pony sisters unite.
