G1 Do collectors actually do this?

I don't think newbie collectors will just toss toys they just bought (even more if they buy from eBay!, or have PP protection).

That seems like the buyer really did not care about the money spent on the ponies, or that (as I recently found...) the ponies were a "gift for a child" and the (adult) buyer didn't like the condition they were in to be gifted to the child.

In the second case, I am in a: Why would you gift a child second/nth hand ponies to a child!! You know nothing about the condition of said toys!!! There's ponies I was afraid to touch due to the condition they were in!!!

Well, the person I had talked to considered themselves a newbie collector and admitted themselves as so, so it didn't sound as if they were buying for someone else. And the lot they had bought wasn't on eBay it was on an auction site I had never heard of before, so I went to check out.

I'm slightly traumatized by this post

First of all, I don't throw anything away (that's another problem for another day). Second of all, I have noticed some newer, younger collectors with seemingly unlimited budgets hoarding up ponies, but also very particular about condition. If you are that picky of a collector, you would think they would be super careful about making specific inquiries regarding condition. I'm thinking maybe these are some entitled rich kids in which case, I have this to say - Stop messing with my childhood and go mess with your own!

Oh, sounds like we have something else in common, Cactusflower. Today I literally had to fight myself to throw away a stack of old butter tubs. Because I *might* find a use for them. I mean, I haven't in years, but I was sorta programmed as a kid to not waste anything so I'm really having to fight an ingrained instinct at this point. In any case, if there is an apocalypse, worry not. I still have a million jars! :D

Yeah the ones that got misplaced needed new tails and stuff wish I knew where they ran off to.

Dey ran of to Vegas to try to earn tail transplant moneys.

*mooooos in comedy*

I hope the ponies really were in bad condition and common ponies -.-

Lately I've seen newbies wanting mint ponies for less than $2.00usd each and getting angry if what you have are ponies in need of care for that price (some just only needing a good bath, others need more treatment or rehairs), and the good ones are in $4.00usd+

Okay. These people need to do their research. There's resources out there and people they can ask for price checks. These aren't blindbags or mcd ponies. They're vintage toys and they weren't $2.00 even back then.

This is kinda disturbing actually.

I don't think I've ever thrown out a pony. Even the ones that come from a thrift store with a leg chewed off or something, I just toss in a "customizers lot" on eBay. Someone can turn them into a mermaid pony or zombie pony or something.

That said, if my cats ever peed on a pony, and the pony was a common one . . . yeah, bye. Cat pee is just the worst!

what is the deal with cats and ponies my sister cat
he doesn't just love ponies he love's if you know what I mean he Get the pony off-the-shelf bite them and Has Fun with them it makes me so mad
I have store my ponies away because I can't display them due to her cat biting them he seems to be only fond of G3 which is kind of weird

I...I'm sorry. But this made me laugh.:lolpony:

If they pee on a pony just toss it with white vinegar for some days =)

Cleaned that way a poor Mexican Starflower that one of my cats decided to mark it as theirs... = P

And some people insist that because they are old and used they must get them for really cheap (if not free at all) -.-

Wait are you serious?

I guess no one told some of these people what buying and selling means. :rolleyespony:

Is vinegar to cat pee ponies, what garlic is to vampires?

What is it with people nowadays insisting everything should be free? It just seems more and more people feel entitled to everything. There is no such thing as free. Someone has to pay for it.

Vinegar is magical and amazing =3 And vinegar odor goes away real easy too! =)

Exactly, that there are people that sell things for real cheap because they do not know what they have / do not care about how much they can make with their things does not equal to ALL should be free or crazy cheap -.-

Personally, I know a person who have bought rare ponies at their real value just to sell them later for almost half the price time later.

I've had to do the last one. With the market slower, prices lower, shipping higher, needing to move them quickly, and venues for selling becoming more difficult to use. The only thing i flat out refused was to sell and ship for less than the cost of shipping and packaging.

And it's really funny because the people who do this are also usually the stingiest, most greedy people you'll ever meet. They think you should give them stuff, but when they sell their stuff they want top dollar.

wow I really do not like those kind of people they would put me off selling thats the main reason I trade. I don't get something for nothing.

Okay, I need to vent a little and I fell y’all will understand my frustration and disappointment.

So, on Monday night I contacted a seller on Facebook Marketplace. She had a lot of ponies (sloppily photographed in a bag) but I could see a G1 Windy, and 2 Stardancers and a few G3 ponies. She was asking $25 for the lot. I figured I would take the chance and buy in hopes she may have something I needed. I contacted her to see if it was still available and she informed me it was. I asked if I could meet her on Wednesday (as it was already after midnight and figured I’d respect the Christmas holiday the next day). She insisted I came to her on Tuesday. I explained I was working but would be happy being late for my family dinner and go directly to her after work. She accepted and gave me her address and instructions for where she wanted me to leave the money.

Tuesday night I raced from work to this woman’s house, got there about ten minutes sooner than I expected. Got out of the car and went to her front porch and found no ponies. So, I went back to the car to double check the address - I was at the right place. I figured I was a little early so I waited, still no sign of her or ponies so I messaged her. She finally messaged me back (after I knocked on the door twice and 25 minutes after the meeting time we confirm). This is what she sent me.

The add was not removed and in fact, it was posted as “SPPU” still. I was naturally very frustrated and annoyed. There I was, outside her house cash in my hands, for ponies I likely already have and possibly spending more $ on duplicates again, but ready for that on the off chance she may have something I need. AND I was now going to be very late for my family Christmas dinner.

Now, two days later I’m still irked and very upset about this. So thought I’d share my little Christmas mis-adventure with everyone here since we’re talking about greedy people. So annoyed. I also want to know who told her she has “rare” ponies. UGH!

What a sucky thing to do. Especially since Windy and Stardancer aren't rare. (Can't say about the G3s.)

aw man no never would I throw out a pony ... heck I have an orphaned pony baby head I have been sure I will be able to customize somehow so yeah to me that's a case of not tossing a clear bait-only pony instead kept in my project box after I got her that way...

Skycakes that just sucks = I was so happy to have a quick sale through craigslist to skip the clean-up part that my whole point was selling to a collector, not maxing out on price... geesh I hope you have better pony hunting luck for 2019 and not dealing with sellers that waste your time like that

I don’t think the G3’s were rare either. At least not from what I could see (a couple of Pinkie Pie’s and a Cherilee). Granted I never asked her how many ponies or what ponies were in the bag. But she literally took a picture of a bag that had some ponies falling out, could’ve been filled with junk for all I know.

Just wish she had of said something before I raced to my house. Like “hey, someone told me my things are rare - are you still interested?” Or something along that line would’ve been better than to have showed up in her driveway and her then tell me she’s changed her mind. Soooooooo obnoxious.

Hopefully this seller will regret missing out on the sale she had clinched because it doesn't sound as if she'll be selling those ponies anytime in the near future. She missed out on an easy sale because of greed. There is a lot of misinformation out there. And some people don't want to actually do their homework. It's sad really. I'm sorry that you had this happen. Some people are so rude.
