Hi there!

I'm known as ShroomGal on the internet and I've been collecting G4 ponies for the past...maybe 4 years.
I'm a female and I use she/her pronouns and I am very much a newer fan of my little pony. I've only started to really get into my little pony when gen. 4 came out because I was too young before that. I do own some G3 but those were just gifts I had gotten from my family as a child.

I've accumulated quite the G4/ 4.5 collection however, I have a Sunny Rays that I got 2nd hand from insane games for about £6. She's in perfect condition and still in her original box from the Canterlot wedding series (I think that's what it was called). I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take her out from her box and keep her with the rest of my ponies. The box its self has an ugly mark where, I believe, a sticker used to be or it just got dropped or something. No matter what I do, the stuff/ marks don't come off and it's starting to annoy me. Sorry that I couldn't attach any actual pics of my pony. My camera doesn't work on this device but I have found pics of the pony I was talking about.

Thank you so much for reading! I've literally made my account a few mins ago and you seem like such amazing people!

I know this forum is mainly used by G1 and G2 collectors however, I'm just hoping to find some advice here and I'm proud to be part of such a great community of pony enthusiasts, haha :)

Welcome! I'm sure these experts will give you some excellent advise.

Hello and welcome to the MLPTP!

We have many collectors here for all generations not just G1/2, I myself collect G1 & 4. As G4 is the newest iteration on the MLP brand they don't own as much value as the earlier generations. Having said that, Sunny Rays is sought after and hold a little more value that other G4 ponies. Having her on card will hold her future resell value (even with sticker gunk on it) but she is your toy. If you want to open her up then do it! You should never feel bad for opening up a pony that's in box if you want to, it's yours and you can do with it as you like. Just keep in mind it's resell value will go down once it is opened. ;)

First off, welcome to the community! I tend to pop in and out, but the people here are truly lovely.

The Pony Wedding line is actually my personal favorite of the G4 line. It has so many fun ponies!

Sunny Rays is a real cutie, isn't she? Shame about the box...

If it's residue from a sticker, have you tried lighter fluid used for zippo lighters? The stuff is often used to remove stickers from books and also works great for removing the stickers on pony boxes or video game cases. (Speaking from personal experience on both.)

I'm afraid only you can decide whether or not to remove her from the box.
Do you plan on reselling her or keeping her?
If you plan on reselling her, removing her from the box will lower her value.
You can do a quick eBay check to see the difference in price between in the box and out of the box.
Just today, one listed as "2011 My Little Pony Sunny Rays Friendship Is Magic NIB G4 w/ Box damage" sold for $29.99 plus shipping.

But does the price difference matter if you plan on keeping her?
How much does the damaged box bother you?

If you're keeping her, I think you should do what makes you happiest.
After all, she IS your pony! ;)

Welcome, welcome! I'm mostly a G4 collector too, and there are enthusiasts for every generation on here.

I agree with everyone else, it really depends if you ever plan on selling her. Sunny Rays is more sought-after now (I still have yet to get her :sleepy:) so I imagine she'd be even more sought-after in the future. If you're worried that she'll completely lose her value if you open her, you don't have to worry about that, since can still sell her for...well, more than your average G4 out of the box, especially if she still has all of her accessories. BUT you can still sell her for a lot more than that if she's still inside of the box. So it's your call.
There's also a chance you could buy a separate out-of-box Sunny Rays on eBay or something, so you can keep this one in the box but then display the other one with your other ponies. But I imagine it may not be worth it

Hi, Thank you very much and that's great advice! I'll try the lighter fluid method to see if it works :) and yeye, I love sunny rays! Her soft colours are somewhat calming, haha. To be honest, I didn't realise how much value she had since I got her so easily (although, I must have been quite lucky) which just makes me want to keep her in her box even more. But yeah, you are right and I'll do what makes me happy. Reading this, I think it would be a waste to debox her...just yet.

Once again thank you so much for such a warm welcome! I'm glad to be part of this community :)

Hi, thank you so much for the kind welcome! This place is so wholesome :) and yeye, I understand and, honestly, I look up to those who collect G1 because of how much you take care of your ponies. I find it fascinating how some people can completely refurbish a tired looking pony and make them look/ keep them looking brand new even after decades. It's beautiful. Chii had given me advice on how to remove the sticker gunk so I'll try that. If it doesn't work, I'll be more inclined to take her out...I feel kind of bad for her, haha

Hi! Thank you for your welcome and I love G4...It's sad to admit but that's the generation that I spent most of my life with and It's genuinely really sad to see it fade, at least here in the UK. Toy shops no longer stock much mlp stuff anymore and the newer potion ponies haven't really arrived yet. I got a few off amazon for a higher price. It's honestly kind of crazy how valuable some of the older ponies are and how the demand has increased so much after the introduction of G4.5 in 2017. Even the more common G4s are considered somewhat valuable so I always buy big bundles on ebay. I might try looking for a slightly damaged/budget sunny rays on ebay or see if a bundle has her...hmm. I shall dig around, haha! Hmm...in a weird way, I do feel somewhat bad for my Sunny rays because she seems "sad" looking at the outside world... (Toy story really messed me up, haha). I;ll try getting the gunk off with Chii's advice. If it doesn't work, I might lean closer to unboxing her...

Oh yeah, I wish you lots of luck finding Sunny rays! She's very cute and it's so hard finding specific ponies that aren't massively overpriced or incredibly damaged. I'm sure you'll find one soon and, if not, may you find a pony that is just as cute, if not cuter!

Welcome! I'm always happy to have another collector join our group. Skybreeze is right. She's worth more in her package. I open most of mine, because I play with them, but you will know what it right for you. You could always sell her and buy a loose one for yourself.

Very true! I have sold the mint on card G1s I had and have replaced them with open ones that I can touch and feel and play with.

Hope the lighter fluid method works out for you! :) Her colors are very pretty. I love the purple on yellow.

It's amazing when you discover your ponies have more than sentimental value, isn't it? I'll never forget how surprised I was when I discovered how much some of my G1 mail orders were worth! I don't love them any more or less for it, but it is a lot of fun! ^_^
