What are your hopes for G5?

Sure thing

G3.5-Bulbous heads, smaller muzzles, big eyes. Strange jellybean shaped barrel.

G4-Bloated, shortened heads, birdbeaks, massive chihuahua ears. monstrous eyes, no cheek bones, skinny necks, backs are too short.

EQG-It explains itself.

Movie style-Grossly bloated heads, bigger eyes, muzzles have literally become upturned birdbeaks.

Pony Life-Lower jaws are completely removed. Overly bloated cat heads. Human mouth under a mouth. Weird back legs. Backs are way too short. Huge ears. Massive sliding eyes. Upturned noses. Pencil necks.

This doesn't really say anything about the art style G5 may or may not have, but I know that the artist Imalou (https://twitter.com/ImalouArt) did some freelance character design work on the upcoming movie, and how "human" the ponies she draws vary from drawing to drawing, but she has quite a few that look more horselike.
Thanks for sharing the link, they’ve got some really cute art on there :blossom:

i hope they will make the 5 i like ..fluttershy, applejack, trixie, lyra and sunset shimmer ..... i hope they do more g1's in g5 bodies

Still pretty vague but finally some news we can work off of: https://kidscreen.com/2021/01/29/my-little-pony-rides-high-with-new-cp/

It has a little bit of stuff about the direction of the toyline but it’s mostly about the tie-in cartoon.

Bit disappointed it’s finally confirmed to be in the same world as FiM (I love that world but I don’t usually like next-gen sort of things and I like new stuff) but let’s see how it goes.

I think it's fine to keep the Mane 6 characters, but I think they should change their personality types and colors around a little. Keep it fresh. I personally wasn't a big fan of the toy line that coincided with FiM. I liked the art style of the FiM cartoon, but I didn't like how it translated to toys very much. Hopefully the creatives at Hasbro can come up with something innovative!

It doesn't look like they're going to be using Mane 6. It's completely new main characters, just in the unspecified future of Equestria. The FiM Mane 6 probably still exists but in the past. Twilight might be the ruler and they all will probably have special appearances but that's probably about it.
At least, that's what I hope. Honestly, my fingers are crossed that they'll just be akin to legends. Maybe the occasional ghost or whatever. I love them and all but I don't want them to be in the main cast again. They've had their time to shine and I really don't want to see their time-skip finale selves again, heh.

Oh I think in the early leaks they were pitching the show to continue with Mane 6. They could have changed it, I feel like it's been pretty under wraps.
I agree though, I'd defiantly rather see some other ponies be our main cast. We have so many that they could work with! Actually, I still want Applejack lol

Those leaks were really early and between a lot of people that probably aren't even working on it anymore. We've already had a few dubious sources saying they're using new characters, but this article actually confirmed they're new characters! "Instead of abandoning the franchise’s characters and stories, the movie will take place in the same world featured in Friendship is Magic and Pony Life, but jump ahead in time to focus on a new generation of ponies and unexplored corners of Equestria. This creates opportunities to include nods to the property’s previous iterations, both in upcoming content and consumer products offerings."

The wording makes it sound like the Mane 6 will still be used in the narrative somehow (maybe just as these "nods" but who knows?) but the main characters are completely new ponies (or at the very least, reimagined versions of ponies from G1--G3)!

Perhaps Twilight fills Celestia's role?

Perhaps Twilight fills Celestia's role?
Maybe! That might be fun! Although if she’s around I would hope her friends are still around too, otherwise that would have pretty depressing implications. :sadpony: But uh, if she does fill Celestia’s role I just hope she looks better than she did at the end of the show. This makes a nice toy (where’s that brushable Hasbro...) but in animated form...

Thundercats Roar Reboot
Shera Reboot

both cartoons were full of woke and they failed.

im Not sure about the rest of you but I for one can’t stand this woke diverse stuff.

what I love is a well written story. If the story is crap Im bailing.
I've seen season 1 of She-Ra and it wasn't bad at all. Besides, I thought that show was pretty well-received?

And even if She-Ra is bad later on, it's not because it was "woke." It would just be a "woke" show that happened to be bad. As long as it isn't shallow tokenism and/or stereotypical, there's nothing wrong with diversity? Kids need to see themselves represented.
Besides, the description of G5 being about diversity is so vague. It could mean anything from personalities, to cultures, to sexualities... and just saying the main character is "an activist" is really vague too. We just don't know enough.

I would have to disagree about She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. It was an extremely well thought out and cleverly written show. Yes, it’s not “for” everyone nor does it follow a lot of the original She-Ra but it gave the universe a lot more depth as well as originally bland and boring characters. Some of the writing and story had a lot of room for growth but it is in it’s whole a show aimed for tweens. With that in mind the writing staff did a great job.

I like that a lot of shows are showing more representation of characters and more depth in their stories. People have been demanding it for generations and we are finally getting it in main stream media. Kids are now growing up in homes with same sex parents more openly now and that’s beautiful. We are seeing more cultural representation in shows now too which is something many shows lacked. Having a strong do it herself heroine in Adora and Glimmer has been great for girls that have seen only the Princess who needs a big strong boy to come save them. We need shows that explore the fact that it’s okay for a boy (or man) to not only have feelings but be allowed to show his emotions. The flat line of boy meets girl and falls in love is no longer the norm in today’s world and it’s time to shows reflected that. It’s got nothing to do with being “woke” and everything to do with showing acceptance and love for the world around us.

It’s time MLP had characters with depth and that’s what FiM brought to the stage and I think what they’re saying is they want to continue what FiM brought. But make it better, take it to the next level and not have the restrictions FiM had. Like maybe straight up say Applejack parents are dead and not just imply it with a tree. Kids can handle more than what we give them credit for now a days.

You said it a lot better than I did, I agree 100%.

I don't see how diversity could harm pony storytelling. I mean I know a lot of us are adults & that sometimes we have to be reminded that this stuff isn't necessarily for us. I don't mean we can't enjoy it- my quarantine brain can only handle kids shows rn- but we have to allow creators and storytellers to tell good stories for kids.
Anyway, Sesame Street totally would have been called "woke" if it came out today. It was created to be education for kids in low income areas by child psychologists. My point is that kids want to see people with different backgrounds. It's adults who get mad about it.
Also they're PONIES guys

Speak for yourself.

People IRL are gay, so I don't see why characters can't just be gay as well. We exist. What is really forced pandering is how children's media before very recently never had any real LGBT representation. That's not an accurate representation of the world, and it is harmful to children. Children who are LGBT still have these feelings (I can attest to this, as I most certainly did). What happens when the reality of LGBT people is hidden from LGBT children? Confusion, shame, and more. What happens to non-LGBT children in the same circumstance? The concept of being LGBT, when it is introduced to them, is automatically othered, it is automatically seen as something taboo. Thus, many non-LGBT children turn to being cruel to LGBT children.

As a child of the 90s, I certainly didn't come out of my childhood with a positive perception of what I am at all. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

I don't care if something comes off as "woke". People who don't want diversity and see their own traits as the default are bound to see anything that isn't pandering to them as "woke". That's their own problem. I hope this isn't your line of thinking.

Your labeling of She-Ra with this really concerns me. That show was perfectly fine. (I don't know about Thundercats, because I've never even heard of that reboot)
