What are your hopes for G5?

I just want the new ones to look like horses. That's my one wish.

Thank you.
Could we all just let it go? My daughter is 11 and already identifies as ace, her bestie is half African American and definitely a POC, plus her class, the excel kids, is made up of a very diverse group. Asian, Hispanic, poc, one boy speaks three languages from all the moving he’s done and his parents don’t speak English. They speak French. The kids, at least in my daughter’s schools, mostly couldn’t care less what your ethnicity is. They’re all just kids. Kids learn to be hateful from their parents and those parents aren’t likely to let their kids watch a woke show anyway.

I just hope that we get new characters that look more like actual ponies. I wouldn’t mind a return of bushwoolies. I do hope they keep the pony dimension separate from the humans. I hope it’s fun, colorful, and can help a new generation love mlp.

Speak for yourself.

People IRL are gay, so I don't see why characters can't just be gay as well. We exist. What is really forced pandering is how children's media before very recently never had any real LGBT representation. That's not an accurate representation of the world, and it is harmful to children. Children who are LGBT still have these feelings (I can attest to this, as I most certainly did). What happens when the reality of LGBT people is hidden from LGBT children? Confusion, shame, and more. What happens to non-LGBT children in the same circumstance? The concept of being LGBT, when it is introduced to them, is automatically othered, it is automatically seen as something taboo. Thus, many non-LGBT children turn to being cruel to LGBT children.

As a child of the 90s, I certainly didn't come out of my childhood with a positive perception of what I am at all. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

I don't care if something comes off as "woke". People who don't want diversity and see their own traits as the default are bound to see anything that isn't pandering to them as "woke". That's their own problem. I hope this isn't your line of thinking.

Your labeling of She-Ra with this really concerns me. That show was perfectly fine. (I don't know about Thundercats, because I've never even heard of that reboot)
I know it's cliche to mention in discussions for this, but I am so glad shows like Steven Universe exist. Where there are not only multiple LGBT+ main characters (2 out of the 4 main characters are explicitly WLW!) but also stories that resonate with queer folks. Garnet's backstory is so wonderful because it is fantastical, like a fairy tale, while also having some themes that mirror real-life discrimination of queer and interracial couples, all without making the themes of discrimination the focus of Garnet's character and Ruby and Sapphire's relationship because kids deserve to see these couples living happy lives. I know the show helped me understand myself a little more and I am grateful for that.

G4 dipped its hooves into a teeny bit of LGBT+ (although the only explicit portrayal was a background detail with Lyra and Bon Bon, and really the only reason they were even a thing was because of fandom popularity) and were honestly probably held back by Hasbro, I wonder if G5 will be allowed to do a bit more. Assuming the writers would actually want to do more, that is.

Anyway...ponies.

I miss the days when they were just pretty ponies and if there was any political connotation I sure wasn’t aware of it. I’m all for inclusion of all views, please don’t get me wrong on that. It was just so much easier being the only blonde kid in school because we were poor, too. They thought my hair was cool, I just wished I had curls like a good half of them. We all played with my ponies. Every single kid in my first grade class came to my birthday party.

That sounds like a fun birthday party
(I was never aware there was any sort of political anything to to with my little ponys ^^; )

You forgot about Scoot A Loo’s Auntie Lofty and Aunt Holiday. ;) *high fives for SU fan!*

Tackling issues and showing diversity isn't bad, but cartoonists seldom handle it in a thoughtful, natural way. And Hasbro has a looooong history of hamfisted, clumsy, moralizing and tokenizing. Not just in MLP, but in their other shows too.

Plus wokeness is just a thinly veiled attempt to push a prejudiced agenda. Modern "activists" are nothing more then hypocritical bigots with an unbalanced mindset.

They can't scream about wanting equality and diversity, while denigrating and wanting to openly oppress others who aren't their gender, sexuality, race, etc. in the same breath and still say they are for equal rights.

I have no respect for SJWs, and wokeness does not belong in children's shows.

You don't show such things by going See here! This person is (insert) and speeshul and bestest because they're (insert) and (insert) is bad/dumb/evil because I said so!

You just have them interacting as one would with family, friends, classmates and co-workers irl. Naturally. That is the best way to include it.

The parents are responsible... now if we could just find more of those. ;)

Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Also the part in the article where it says the main character is going to be an "activist" makes me think the whole shows going to be preachy.

Okay guys there's a rumored G5 cartoon render going around.
My source is a rumor post on Equestria Daily: https://www.equestriadaily.com/2021/02/rumor-licensed-mlp-bedding-shows-off.html

This company, Jerry Fabrics, makes licensed MLP bedsheets and such. They have officially licensed G4 bed sheets coming out in April...but something interesting is that a licensed bed set for September, which happens to correspond with the release date of the G5 movie, has different designs and characters on it. This also resembles the design of the rumored movie animatic we saw and somewhat resembles the style of an artist we know worked on the film.

Interesting... I’m not sure about how I feel exactly about the style but the new series was supposed to be CG, right? They’d probably look a bit better to me in CG. Nice to see fluffy hooves returning and brown hooves!

EDIT:
Seeing as the unicorn has fading hair, could we be seeing brushables who have similar hair to the G1 family ponies like the Meadowsweet family?

Just browsing the web and find this bedding. On equestrian Daily. https://www.equestriadaily.com/2021/02/rumor-licensed-mlp-bedding-shows-off.html#more

That giving me Filly Funtasia Vibes. With the off colors to horns wings plus Sprinkle the cat ear and piggy snout look. Not as fancy style at the G5 concept that looked a million times better.

Bad enough it going to be woke movie and series with the Activision and junk. But the designs
Dam they are horrid and a Yawn

Seen way better from the fandom.
Guess Hasnro is going over and beyond in the cheap level on this reboot.
God I hope I'm wrong.

“ Everyone can make a difference.” is tha5 their new catchfrase or somethihg. SHRUGS?

Your thoughts,

Kinda looks like the style I hated, but it isn't quite as bad in color, I guess.
I think the 3/4 views on this merch are cute (the ones on the patterned sheets, not the blanket) but I'm not a fan of the front view much at all.
But it may not mean anything when it comes to the actual design. I know well that G4's front view vectors tended to look a bit...off on packaging.

The front view on my magazine Pinkie Pie figure isn’t very flattering either...

It was a quick photo so it’s just a cardboard background with bad light

I like how they all have fluffy hooves, and the pastelish colors are nice. I wouldn’t mind if this was the style we end up with

I think it’s not bad actually. Pretty color palette, fluffy hooves and nothing wrong with telling people they can make a difference
