After being battered by sub zero temps, we have reemerged from the Ice Age!

We expected to lose power as usual (sometimes we've lost electricity for up to ten days after awful storms) but thanks to the rolling blackouts, we made it through with power! YAYS! We did have no internet, no phone, couldn't drive out, but as we tend to supply for the apocalypse, we did quite fine. We had plenty of firewood, critter food, people food. So we suffered far less than many.

We do have some damage. There's pipes to be repaired (which is an easy fix, just gotta get the parts down the road and repair it. Our heating unit seems to have a relay burned out on the blower, but temps are up so we won't die.

What a wild week!

But I'm back and the internet is on, so i can catch up. My apologies! Who thought i'd get knocked offline during a swap AND a contest!

How are the rest of you faring?

Glad your back

Just so happy you're back and all is ok. *happy dance*

SO HAPPY to hear you and your family are safe and sound! I've been worried about you guys all week. As a fellow crazy critter person, I know how difficult (and dangerous!) it can be to keep animals safe during winter storms.

Hope you can get the pipes and heater repaired shortly. You all take care!

let me guess! you are in Texas too?! I was lucky enough to not lose any power or water, but we did have pips break in the house, ugh.

I'm glad our Texas friends are doing well. My family is in Oregon and they had a terrible ice storm just before the bad weather hit y'all. My mom, who lives in town, was without power for 4 days - that never happens in town. And my best friends' parents, who live out in the sticks, just got their power back after TWO WEEKS. Just massive outages, hundreds of thousands of people without power, and the time it takes to get the power lines repaired due to trees and branches down everywhere. In addition to all the transformers that exploded from the thick ice coating them. The only advantage was it didn't stay at freezing temps in Oregon, like what Texas had going on.

I'm glad everyone is safe! Welcome back foofoo!

Wow, I’m just north, but none of Washington’s outages lasted long. I’m on the same substation as the hospital, so we only lose power if our transformer blows (a squirrel did that once). Or in extreme circumstances it might, but this is the only hospital that can receive life flight in the area.

My family is quite rural. Between Portland and Salem. So lots and lots of narrow backroads and trees everywhere.
My parents are in the middle of town, but they've been there 30+ years and have 80ft trees... maybe 20 on their lot. They have aborists come every year to check out the trees and trim any branches that might be trouble. A few years ago, their neighbor's tree fell on their house in a windstorm. It was scary seeing 80ft of tree lying on their house. Didn't hit any lines, though. Those rural roads, especially in Oregon, are terrible for taking out lines. Oregon is very under populated considering the size of the state and number of national parks. I think that's why we fared so much better in the fires, too. Oregon just doesn't have the manpower per acre. Washington has a pretty decent population per acre.

I'm glad that your family is ok. <3
