I. From the Ground Up: Figuring out the Generation
Before finding your pony's name, the set it belongs to, or its value, it's important to know how to figure out what generation of My Little Pony you have. One of the easiest ways to deduce this is to look at both the pony's body, and the information printed under its feet:
It's important to note that some G1 ponies may not have anything stamped under their feet. Likewise, they may have varying information as far as the country of origin ("Made in ______"). But unless their feet are blank, some notation of "Hasbro" will most likely be visible.
G1 ponies were made in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Just because your pony doesn't look like the Applejack pictured above, it's definitely worth checking out if your sea pony, Big Brother pony, animal-based Pony Friend, tiny Petite, giant My Pretty Pony, fuzzy So Soft pony, delicately-winged Flutter Pony, or even your dragon is, in fact, a G1 My Little Pony product.

There are several ways to figure out which My Little Pony you have. Fortunately, we have wonderful members of the collecting community who have made this easier than it's ever been to accurately and easily identify your pony.
