Within the My Little Pony collecting community, there are many phrases and abbreviations used to denote qualities or characteristics of certain ponies or pony items. Here are some of the most common ones from our friends at PonylandPress.com.

I. Buying, Selling, and Trading:

WTB -- Want to Buy. Used when someone is looking to buy.

II. Pony Generations:

GENERATION -- A “generation” refers to the style of pony relative to the year(s) when it was released. For example, a G1 (Generation 1) pony would be any pony made between 1982 - 1994.

G1 -- Generation 1. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 1982 and 1994.

G2 -- Generation 2. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 1996 and 2003.

G3 -- Generation 3. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 2002 and 2009.

G3.5 -- Generation 3.5. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 2009 and 2010.

G4 -- Generation 4. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 2010-2019.

G4.5 -- Generation 4.5. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made between 2020-2021.

G5 -- Generation 5. Refers to My Little Ponies and products made from 2021 onward.

III. Pony Types:

Because some ponies share the same name, abbreviations are often used to clarify which release the pony is.

BB -- G1 Big Brother ponies

BnG -- G1 Brush N' Grow ponies

BBE -- G1 Beddy Bye Eye baby ponies

CF -- G1 Concave-footed collector ponies (see also: FF/ Flat Foot)

DB -- G1 Dream Beauties

MO -- G1 Mail Order ponies

NBBE -- G1 non Beddy-Bye-Eye baby ponies (to distinguish from the BBE version)

NBT -- G1 Newborn Twin ponies

IV. Pony Condition:

CB -- "Custom Bait." Refers to ponies who are so badly flawed that they are beyond restoring, and are only good for customizing. These especially include ponies with severe marks, symbols completely removed, no hair, etc., but can also include extremely common ponies with less severe damage. Very rare ponies are almost never considered custom bait, regardless of their condition.

Custom Pony -- A pony of any generation that has been customized by an artist.

Exclusive -- A pony or item that was only available at a certain store, certain event, or through other exclusive means.

HTF -- "Hard to Find." Refers to the pony being rare.

MIP (MIB) -- "Mint in Package/Box." Refers to mint ponies still in their original packaging. Depending on context, this may or may not mean that the packaging has never been opened. Some ponies, such as Flutter Ponies, may removed from their boxes for display while remaining affixed to their cardboard stands; these are sometimes boxed up again and sold as MIP/MIB, although technically it is more correct to refer to them as "mint with box."

MOC -- "Mint on Card." Refers to mint ponies still on their original cards and still sealed in their plastic bubbles.

NIP (NIB) -- "New in Package/Box." Same as MIP.

NRFP (NRFB) -- "Never Removed from Package/Box." Refers to mint ponies still in their original boxes, and implies that the pony has physically never been taken out of her original box (although occasionally you may see on eBay a photograph of a “NRFB” pony who is, inexplicably, not in her box at all).

OOAK -- "One of a kind." This can refer to a custom pony or a very rare pony or item.
PONY CANCER -- “Pony Cancer” is what collectors call any kind of mold that grows on ponies. There are several types of Pony Cancer, such as Pindot Mold, Circle-Dot mold, Black Mold, etc.

PINDOT MOLD -- “Pindot Mold” is a type of "Pony Cancer" which appears as tiny pin-sized dots on the surface of an affected pony.

REGRIND -- “Regrind,” often mistaken for a type of "Pony Cancer," is actually a factory flaw. Sometimes the factories producing My Little Ponies would try to save money by mixing old plastic with new plastic, with the result that, over time, pale, neon, or dark marks appear on the ponies. There is, unfortunately, no treatment for this.

SMOOZE -- “Smooze" is another term for ponies with inground dirt on the surface, often appearing like clogged pores in the plastic.
