A bit of a giggle for you all

I want to know the source material for that article. Lol Honestly.

Notice that the first two on the list mention the price comes from "boxed" ponies? So, assuming they are MOC... maybe the prices aren't too off...?
Even for MOC they're common ponies that come up often, I doubt they would go for that much over priced. Although we are living in strange pony times now...who knows what anything is worth anymore?

And I took a tour through eBay's most expensive worldwide pony listings for fun last week, some Mint In Package original ponies are listed, all over $1000 USD, so all the prices quoted for "in the original packaging" seem on the nose, but misleading, because that isn't what anyone's going to have in their attic/basement/closet.

Most recent sales on my very quick search:
Medley $94.78usd = £74.14
Skydancer $91.01usd but nirvana = £71.19
Majesty $89usd = £69.62

So prices are waaaaaaaaay off unless they were looking at the Nirvana lots. Then yes, the prices are closer to that. This is what's irritating to me lately is there articles like this that are poorly written and the BOOM new people (and resellers) get in and get greedy and start asking inanely over priced. Then a poor new person to the hobby comes in and thinks these are all normal prices and they basically get "scammed". It's disappointing being a long time collector and I know there's a lot of us that feel this way.

I feel bad for someone who may find a good ol’ Medley and think they have the super rare Baby Medley...

My friend (who doesn’t collect anything) found a beanie baby at her mom’s and was freaking out thinking she had won the lottery with such a rare collector’s item... needless to say when she found out who it was, it turned out to be a super common one selling for a couple of bucks.

How are ponies actually priced? I know condition and stuff counts but it makes me wonder how it translates into money
Wow, “baby” Medley though

This happens a lot with them. I have so many, I absolutely love them!
I think when I was little I thought ones like the Attic Treasures collection were rare but it turns out they’re probably not at all. They’re still pretty special to me

From what I've seen, prices for MLP fluctuate more than most collectibles. Everytime I see a price guide in print or online, it seems pretty inconsistent, which makes sense. It seems as if other vintage toys in particular have far more fixed pricing and usually at higher values?

That happens with most toy lines that have multiple generations through the years. Much like MLP, Care Bears, TMNT, Polly Pocket and Littlest Pet Shop all fluctuate as they don’t othen have things that “retire” or are one of a kinds as much as say Barbie dolls.

Yes, MLP has a few very sought after ponies (mostly G1 & G3) but nothing that really had extremely limited runs.

What about mail-in offer ponies? Seems like those would be pretty limited.

Oh? I guess some very limited production ones?

That article was so poorly written. I noticed misspellings, run-on sentences, and it wasn't put together to make you actually want to read it. So hopefully most would-be and new-be collectors didn't. Whomever wrote it didn't do any actual research, like interview an actual collector to find out the real deal about years of My Little Pony and why some ponies might be worth what they are worth. This "writer" is a want-to-be journalist with no integrity.

(As with most "writers" now "reporting" almost everything, for every "publication"...)
The longer I thought about the article the other day, the more annoyed I got by it.
So, I did what any rational internet person would do. I sent the company who posted it a very long and factual email advising of correct information and the distaste in the community for ill advised info being published. I also called them out for the many errors as a “professional blog” shouldn’t have.
I probably won’t hear back from them but it felt good to share correct information.
