A Horse Named ‘Regret’: A Long FINISHED Post

The spraypaint has dried fine! I thought she was sticky at first but it was because she was in the cold shed, not the best place to leave her overnight.
She has a slight shine which I didn’t want but I think my matt sealer will fix that.
She will definitely need another coat but that will have to be another day because it’s raining yet again and I don’t want to spray in the shed again because it’s an enclosed area

Even though the spray paint dried fine, I wasn’t too keen on the texture and I started feeling it was a bad idea to spray paint and wondered why I didn’t just go for what I already know and that’s using my Posca paint pens. I’ve decorated many things with them and they’ve never done me much trouble.
I didn’t choose to use them at first because of any lines/smears and thinking that the paint wouldn’t be opaque enough.

So I got some acetone and put it on the bottom of a hoof to see if it’ll come off and if it didn’t, I would seek out the PineSol or something similar. Thankfully, it worked and I used it to get the rest off. It was taking a while so I dipped some bits of magic eraser in it and scrubbed and it came off a lot quicker. Afterwards, I gave her a quick wash again and started with my Poscas. The brush Poscas are very helpful indeed and it feels a lot nicer to do it with my pens and kinder in a way too. I love my Poscas, give me them all! :lolpony:

This is how she is currently. When I have time again, I’ll go over in another coat or two. I’ve painted a lot of hares with my Poscas so from this point on, I know what I’m doing... until I get some pony hair then I am learning again.

With ponies, this has all felt like a learning curve but it also felt very silly to go back on the spray paint. Trial and error I guess

Time for another update!

She has eyes! She has eyes now and she can see you and everything else around

Yes that is a sewing needle sticking out of her head.

Thanks to past me, I took a photo of her original eye just in case I ever needed it. The date on it was October 2017. Here she is compared to it:

I changed the heart in the eye to a “x” because shes Heart Break, not Heart Bright. I ended up mainly going off more of Daffidazy’s eye design accidentally instead.

I used my Posca Paint Pens and a very fine brush for this. I mixed navy blue with black for the eyes but you can’t see much of the blue in it but that doesn’t matter. My design sheet I’ve done up for her had the colours based off an invert colour version of Heart Break.

What I’m going to do next is put a little glaze on her eyes as the ponies have a slight shine to them then it’s time to try my hand at rehairing. I’ve got the hair already from Retro Dolls UK.

I am on the hunt for the right kind of heart gem for her cutie mark. I did try to start it but I didn’t know how far to go with it for it to be visible in case the perfect gem is too big and covers some. I am still trying to figure out what to do with the big hole in her back

A different attempt at wings perhaps? Or maybe a saddle blanket cover, like the Secret Surprise Ponies have?

Amazing job on the eyes!
Thank you!
I did consider doing different wings but I have a feeling they won’t go to plan. I have thought about trying to find a little old saddle from other horse toys before but the blanket is quite a good idea. At the moment I just have a little voodoo doll sitting in the hole
Those eyes look official!
Thanks! They took me a couple of days because I just kept on altering them. I decided to call them done when I just knew I wouldn’t stop altering them and it’ll go on forever

Those are some impressively straight lines on the eyes!! Nice job :lolpony:
Thanks!
The paintbrush I was using has a really thin tip so that was quite helpful.
When I come to do eyes on other repaints, I usually find it really difficult to get them neat, especially around the edges. Doing pony eyes somehow felt much easier and that was surprising but there was a lot of neatening up to do

Heart Break is now looking a lot more like a pony!

I’ve never rehaired anything before so I looked at different rehair techniques and decided to go with The New Grey Mare’s tutorial for doing it the floss method. I did see other tutorials for this but that was just the one I ended up following. I did it one plug at a time with thread instead. I was worried about all the damaged plugs and how I would get around those but I ended up doing it. I’m quite pleased with the result. I did put a bit of glue inside just for some peace of mind.

The hair is from Retro Dolls UK. The colours are Golden Glory (yellow), Soleil (orange) and Gooseberry (green). I did expect the orange to be brighter but I don’t mind, she’s fine as she is.

Here is my original design for her for when I was starting to get some ideas for her for those interested:

I still have to figure out what to do with her back. I looked at Secret Surprise ponies as ZeldaTheSwordsman suggested but then I saw the pony wear Carnival Time cloak and I think I’ll do something similar since I’m not too sure about sculpting again on her. I have seen the other items in the pony wear line for ideas. I do eventually want to give her a normal pony back eventually. When rehairing her, I accidentally damaged some of the white on her ears so I’ll have to go back over that and around her neck at some point too.

Finding a gem for her will be put on hold for a while as I have other projects waiting to be continued.
She’s a pony again! Almost! And she kind of fits in a lot better with my other ponies and that’s what I wanted the most I think

Thank you for seeing her progress so far! Regrettable customs can be turned around for the better no matter how bad they may seem

Gasp! She's a living pony again!

You're doing a fantastic job with her. What a turnaround. It's awesome to see her with eyes and hair again!
Thank you!
I don’t think I would’ve imaged her to look like a pony again when she was sitting on my shelf as a melted dragon earlier this year

You’ve definitely brought her back to life! Once the back is covered up you would never even know that she’d been in such bad shape :D
Thanks! :lolpony:
I believe covering the back up would be the icing on the cake for her once her cutie mark is done too.

I don’t hate the pose as much as I did now. I’ve found she looks good next to a baby pony like she’s bending down to eye level with them

Thanks! :lolpony:

Aw that would be a cute way to display her :lolpony:

She's looking good. I like the hair color choices.
Thanks! The mane reminds me of Citrus Sweetheart just flipped colours

It would be, I don’t have shelf space so it could be ideas for photos when it’s nice outside again

A small update as I have continued Heart Break and haven’t updated in a while.

I now have a way to finish her off. In previous months I had been trying to find a heart gem for her cutie mark and failed to find one that would be the right size. I went looking again hoping for more luck now there’s usually more heart shaped stuff being sold for Valentines but no luck. I managed to find some online but it’s 2mm too short for what I measured on my pony but it covers the “keyhole” well enough.

Thank you @Skybreeze for your suggestion about puffy paint on the neck damage questions thread! It seems to be working well

So what I’ve done is used my 3D pen to make a platform in her body to fill in. I wanted the body to still be hollow so she is light. I like how a pony feels in the hand with weight

Her head came off a couple of days ago in my bag when I went out to find her a heart and no luck. Her tail looks wet there because I took it out thinking it’ll be better to protect it but then I remembered how hard it was to get in the hole in the first place...

I didn’t realise the 3D pen platform would be removable but it shouldn’t after the puffy paint. I also filled in the keyhole too for puffy paint to go in so the heart has something to stick to.

This is the body after a night of drying. It’s still a little sticky at the moment maybe from the amount I used but as you can see, there is clearly some smoothness in her back now. Her back was more curved before it evened out a bit. I did a little test run the night before last and the puffy paint seems really promising when dry. I think I’ll have to do another layer afterwards once it’s all settled and dried completely so we’ll see. Or maybe the puffiness may help (I also did a test with the ‘puffy’ part on the instructions on the back of the bottle).
She is going well so far
