I have a G3 Pumpkin Tart doll
(It’s my childhood doll)
I’ve been wanting to reroot her hair since 2017 but never gotten around to it.

She is currently in my drawer detached from the body
Hair and tail completely removed

I want to give her a complete new hair and tail

Any advice of where to get doll hair

I would need Purple , blonde and orange

And what sort of needle toy would you use?

I don’t necessarily want her to look like the original doll but more like the box illustration

(I wanna curl her hair as well)

There are lots of places you can get the hair from, my favorite site is Shimmerlocks
But there’s also restoredoll.com, the doll planet, retro dolls, dolly hair, and the doll hair emporium. There might be others but that’s all I can think of :)
And for the rooting tool, most of those sites also sell the tool and needles so when you pick where you wanna get the hair from you can probably just order the tools at the same place
Goodluck!

^^ seconding everything azalea said. I mostly use TheDollPlanet on Etsy for my hair and have only had positive experiences with them so far. I know DollyHair and Shimmerlocks are both equally popular though! You're probably going to want Nylon hair because that's what ponies usually have, and it's the most versatile fiber. It takes a curl really well and stays soft and pretty for a long time.

There's lots of tutorials on YouTube on how to go about rerooting- it's very simple!

You can also look up how to style the hair on there, I recommend dollightful for help on curling. The most popular method is with plastic straws, bobby pins, and boiling water.

Good luck!

I second what those two said about where to buy hair: there's lots of good places to buy hair from (My favorite is shimmerlocks but depending on your location and needs you should check out other hair sites too!)
I suggest you get a rehairing tool from one of the hair sites, very useful and makes rehairing easy. You will also need good glue to keep the hair in place! (I use fabritac).
Here is a tutorial using the standard rehairing method with a rehairing tool, but I know there are alternate methods if for any reasin you can’t get your hands on a rehairing tool or if the normal method doesn’t work for your needs. One method I’ve heard about (but haven’t tried myself) is the floss method.
Good luck!

Everyone’s given good advice but my advice I can add for G3 ponies is warm up the heads with warm water when rerouting. It softens it up enough to poke the hair in. Oh, and the bodies too for the body. G3’s are more solid than G1’s. Boiling water helps too but as always with that be careful with yourself!

I began using the floss method with using thread before I started using a rooting needle. I still use this method to this day sometimes

From personal experience, The Doll Hair Emphorium on Etsy is very good (if you’re in the UK like I am)

I second the heating up g3s

my fiance did a g3 pony with no heat and went through about 10 needles lol

I get most of my pony hair from Shimmerlocks and I got their rooting tool & needles too. I think they have a starter kit now that includes the tools & a pack of hair

And if you don’t want to work with boiling water to soften the plastic a hairdryer on the low setting has worked well for me with dolls, I haven’t tried it on a pony yet though :)

I used it on a fakie custom and melted some of the nylon hair maybe from holding it too close to the pony once and kept having to use it because the fakie kept going solid so fast. I somehow melted a bit of nylon hair

It’s good for heating up a body when going to poke the tail through

In general: too much heat can melt a pony’s hair, so you always wanna use caution using it to work with a pony. If you are careful and make sure it’s not too hot I know lots of people use heat with heating ponies to make the plastic easier to work with. I’ve boiled a pony before to make it easier to work with her plastic, but I tend to avoid using heat with pony hair at all for that reason :p Boiling water I don’t think is hot enough to melt anything from my experience so long as the water isn’t a million degrees too hot lol. I know others use heat with curling though, But I just curl with straws and no heat and it works great. Whatever you do I hope rehairing her goes well and her plastic isn’t too difficult to work with!
