And then she never showed the slightest interest...

Hello! In 1995 I had a baby girl. While out garage saleing that year, we stumbled onto a pile of ponies. 98, to be exact. Plus the original big plastic one, so 99 ponies. I thought, what fun Fia will have with these. But which ones? The seller offered the whole lot for what seemed like a deal, and home they came. After cleaning them and carefully combing out tangled hair, I wasn’t so sure what a deal they were, but I was impressed by their condition, so...

well, little Fia grew up, crazy about classical ballet and historical American Girl dolls, and after a ballet ending injury at 13, she became crazy about horses and sailing and wild animal rescue. But at no point did she ever so much as look at the My Little Pony stash in the basement. Not once.

Fia graduated college this week - plus she’s been working in an adult job, as a paralegal, for two years. She’s found her life mate and adopted an unadoptable dog and settled into adult life with zero interest in collecting or even, to my horror, saving her favorite things from childhood. “Not even to save for your children?” “Mom, seriously, what is the point to having children? Remember how horrible I was?” Asked my almost embarrassingly perfect child. The one that prompted strangers to tell me I was a perfect mother ( to which I’d point to my other child and say “ahem!” And they’d take it back.)

so, no grandchildren in sight, but oodles of toys and I guess it’s time to sell them. First though, I need to learn. What I know is everything I have is 1995 or earlier. All but one or two are in good to excellent condition. A couple have flat feet. Several novelties - several sea horses, a lion, some pegasus, a doll, some with thin plastic wings, some that speak, one that grows hair...some ballet dancers, parts of a ballet studio... some with gemstone eyes, some that are scented. At one point I tried to get their names, but I find it’s confusing as there are baby and adults with the same names, etc. there is so much to learn!

So I came here. Thanks for any future advice, and possibly, purchases.

Hello and welcome!

What a tale about growing up and hopes of a child finding love in something precious from our childhood. <3 It sounds like you've got quite the stash and I know you'd likely have a lot of buyers here. We do have a lot of knowledgable people here who are more than happy to help you (myself included).

I would suggest step one would be to photograph and upload photos of your ponies so we can help you identify them. From there we can assist you in pricing and selling/buying your pretties from you. ha ha!

Feel free to message me directly if you like too. I am always happy to help. :)

Mylittlewiki.org or strawberryreef.com cam help you to identify them. Or, we always love pictures and buying ponies on here. A couple members have great pricing help pages. I know Skybreeze offered, but feel free to pm me if you need any help. I’m in Washington state USA. Your story is pretty great. I can’t count the number of toys I got for my daughter that she looked at maybe once then left behind with no interest. Very strong willed ladies.

Welcome to the MLPTP. The above members have given you the same advice I would. If you can post some pictures we can tell you who/what you have and help you get some price ideas. Depending on the ponies and what time you want to invest, sometimes selling in groups vs individually is something worth considering too. Often individual pony sales will give you more profit but also requires you to do a little more work then just selling all in one lot. I usually post my sales here first for a few weeks before moving on to a auction site like ebay to avoid the fees. I'm sure many members here would be happy to take some ponies off your hands :)

Thank you, Tak. Strong willed, how’d you guess? I knew this before we even got home with her. She wouldn’t look at me or respond to my voice, so I asked if she could hear and see . The nurse checked her and said yup - just slow to warm! So from day one, I accepted that as her nature and just told her to use her power for good! And she always has. I hope yours does too.
Fia has always - even as a toddler - been more adult than child like, and she never was that interested in toys. The historic American Girl dolls were perfect for her for this reason. I read about the history of MLP’s origins and remembered that Fia’s life long best friend was obsessed with stuffed animals, but like th woman who initiated the idea at Hasbro, only realistic ones. Curiously, she herself has had MLP shades of hair since she was about 12. Little girls are funny creatures!

thank you for your advice. I will open the corral and set up a photo session in the next few days

Thanks for the welcome, Gingerbread! I sell on ebay and, depending on how shipping vs value play out I usually try individually first and then group whatever doesn’t go quickly. Great idea to offer them here first.
Thanks again!

Thank you, Skybreeze, I responded yesterday but see it didn’t go through, so here is another try. Great advice. I will try to get started in the next few days. Photographing will be easy. I tried attaching a sample photo and see I will need to resize though. Hopefully that won’t bog me down too much.

My daughter just turned 12 last month. She would have multi color hair if I would let her bleach hers, but I explained why I thought it was a bad idea (she has a sensitive scalp) and she listens to reason. She’s been enjoying cosplay with wigs instead.

Remember when asymmetrical hairdos were the rage? When Fia was 3 she chopped off her hair. I caught her staring in the mirror, hand grasping loose hair, horror on her face. She explained that she thought that would make it grow. The funny thing was she had pulled it all to one side and had given herself a perfect asymmetrical cut. So I just cleaned it up a bit. Oh, the compliments and requests for referrals we got. And then, the stories, after we explained. One mom oc a sweet little boy said he got a crush on a little girl gheir first day of preschool. To demonstrate his affection, he took the teacher’s scissors anf lopped off both her pigtails at the scalp.

Fia learned her lesson without bring scolded ( sometimes scolding and punishment distract from the lesson). I reassured her that it would grow back but to come and ask if she wanted to cut it again. Then I said “but never do it to your dolls, because it won’t grow back” She not only took that advice, she never once combed a doll’s hair ( in ballet they were required to make perfect buns on themselves by 7 - I think that was enough for her). I wonder if all those wonderful tails on ponys affected her disinterest in them? That was, after all, the big rule when they were designed - they had to be combable.

Welcome to the TP! You've been given great advice for selling already. So, please just let us know if you need further help! Looking forward to seeing what you will be offering up for sale!
Thank you! Now I can’t find the little blighters! I know I saw them recently, but maybe at our second house??? Will keep looking here and then check next weekend at the other.
