Anyone into any of the Aesthetics Subcultures? i.e. Cottagecore, Goblincore, etc.

@ActionHank like collecting 80s and 90s tech, yeah that's totally a thing. I'd have to look it up, but for sure. https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Aesthetics_Wiki these are not rules, really there are not rules, just guidelines. You can totally make up your own aesthetic, it's endless. And to be clear, having an aesthetic is not a requirement or anything. @-@ It's just that a lot of us might already be unknownly participating in an aesthetic trend and there are a lot of like minded people out there.

@peaches2217 I've seen liminalcore used, but I like using Liminal Spaces, I think it sounds better, and not everything has to have a core ending, although they typically do. Culture gets thrown on the end of things too. Like Vulturecore is interchangable with Vulture Culture, but there is some nuance between the two.

@feelysonheelys you can throw core on anything LOL, that's totally legit.

@Tak I think it's kinda cool you had to ask E. I'm assuming of course, but based on the longer than expected answer, E was more than happy to info dump about Cottagecore and you might have connected to a new part of E's world.

And there is no shade or shame in having to ask or look something up or google it for that matter. There is always so much coming and going in the world, one can't be expected to know everything, much less keep up with it all. :winkpony: I mean I might know what Cottagecore is, but I still hit the space bar twice at the end of every sentence I type...:coolpony: I also havn't figured out how to use the quotes function, so I don't spam the forum and drive moderators crazy soooo...

ooh, just hit the "+ Quote" button at the bottom of the post you want to quote and a tab saying "Insert quotes..." will appear underneath the empty text box you use to post- hit that and then hit "Quote messages" ;) you can do this with as many posts as you want and just type underneath each quote. hope i didn't make it sound too complicated but thought i'd explain for your reference (also it looks like you've done it before, so oops)

So what core thing do I have when my room is full of old electronics and stuff from 80s to the 90s?
I think there is a gadgetpunk and/or junkpunk!!! I was going to suggest macGyvercore though I don't think it's a thing yet.

I have to Google and deep dive too lol. I had no idea aesthetic were a thing until my cosmic bff introduced me to the trend. And then it was like, oh wow, I've been living these forever lol. A lot of goblins (Goblincore) have the same experience; they've been a goblin the whole time, and now there are whole communities developing from it, not unlike pony collectors. What I love about the aesthetics too, is that you can be fluid with them or create some fusion between different ones. It's all a matter of preference and taste. Also, they go beyound a fashion trend or a social media trend in the sense that they have lifestyle componets and hobbies that go with each aestheic. Not to mention there is a lot of overlap, so a lot of them work in tandem with eachother.
After a little research in this topic I can't stop thinking about it. I really want to dig into it more. Thanks for enlightening me!

@MoonRaven it makes sense, and seems like an easy way for people with common interests to share and discover. I think I will dub myself "eclecticore" LOL cause I like so much of everything, just a hodge podge here LOL but that's how I've always been. In middle/high school in the 90's it was always very clique-y and most groups didn't cross over but I always did, no matter what "style" I might have been into I was always hanging out with everybody and I think that's why I always had so many friends, cool people can be into anything and I like everyone unless they're total poo poo heads :rainbowpoop: but now I know hip new lingo and my youngin' friends and coworkers will be super impressed by my worldliness :satisfied:

LOL. Thank you! I ways hitting the reply button before, when I could just hit the quote button and make a single reply. Thiiiiiink I get how it works now...maybe lol. YASSSSSSSSSS. I get it now. Actually this is a pretty cool feature.

I like the sound of Junkpunk its got that post-apocalypse vibe and that's the best vibe.
Junkpunk also has a corvid vibe to it lol. I like it. If you're into post-apocalypse stuff, there are lots of aesthetics that tap into that too. Are you a Fallout fan?

Happy to be of service! Thanks for taking an interest. Remember all the stuff you find about the ones you like are just guidelines, AND you can totally make your own themes for aesthetics that interest you. There is a lot of fluidity too, so you can mix and match, hybridize, whatever you fancy. I'm kinda doing that with Ravencore, because it's not as popular as say Goblincore, and there is overlap with crowcore and corvidcore, so I kinda make stuff up. I vibe with Goblincore really well, but I'm more of a spooky goblin and nerdy, soooo being a Ravencore raven is a more accurate representation of me in real life, so it's my main, buuuut ravens are shapeshifters, so I can be gobbo, vulutre or dragon anytime I want. There is also such a thing as Halloweencore and Ghostcore, soooo I have like 10 different aesthetics lol.

@Gingerbread eclecticore is totally legit. You could also use friendshipcore, are come over to ravencore, where friendship is one of the core values. Also, I just saw your Gingerbread's Kitchen thread, and holy pony, you've got a lot more than just hip mew lingo going for you. All of the aesthethics have a cooking/baking componet to them, where it's all about slowing down and making real food or baking something awesome. Especially comfort foods like soup or homemade bread. I know all of foodies with instagram the heck outta their "food", but there is a whole other scence with just posting pics of good homemade food.

I was the same way in highschool, I made friends with everybody, sans the "poo poo heads" lol. I'm ecletic too, also part of why I like ravencore being my main, because being eclectic is a core value too. Ravens don't have to be just spooky and all gothy, it about being into all sorts of things and making friends with all sorts of creatures, at least in my opinion.

@ActionHank a corvid vibe with regards to junk and punk. Corvids love collecting junk or "trash". Well junk and trash to others, treasure to corvids. In the aesthetic spheres, these treasures are refered to as shinies. Corvids are attracted to shiny objects and random bits they find on the ground. I, myself, have a small collection of nuts, bolts, screws, pennies, metal thingys, brightly colored plastic bits, bottle caps etc. that I found on the ground, put into my pockets and keep in upcycled glass jars I save. Not every piece of junk I find, but deffinatly the intersting bits. :lolpony: There is also a scavenger element involved, so I usually include scavengercore when posting about ravencore stuff. Scavengercore is it's whole own thing too. Fallout 100% fits into scavengercore.

And I feel like corvids have punk elements in their fashion choices.

Also, Corvid refers to the family of birds that Ravens, crows, jays, magpies, etc. belong to.

I love the Fallout games, and I'm into the whole post-apocolyptic vibe.

I also do this.

Also is fashion important because I don't do any kind of fashion.

@ActionHank I don't really do fashion either lol. Fashion is an element, but not a requirement. That what I really like about the whole aesthetic thing, that it's not limited to fashion; it has a HUGE participatory element. Fashion is one way a person can participate. Hobbies and interest are just as important. You can participate by creating or making something. Doing art, baking, sewing, making clothes, upcycling, collecting, music, making jewelery, having an adventure, hanging out in nature, finding mushroom, picking flowers, going on a picnic, thrift store shopping, treasure hunting for junk, taking pictures...etc. It all depends on the themes and motifs of the aesthetic in regards to the "hobbies", but it's really about lifestyle and doing stuff that interests you or gives you joy.

The closest I've ever come to fashion is in high school I wore an old army dress jacket.

Does animation or archiving youtube videos count?

Also when you say upcycling what do you mean?

Upcycling is like taking an old barrel and making it into a flowerpot. You take something that can no longer be used for its original purpose, and give it new purpose.

Totally counts, at least I think it does. Especially if your into a tech centered aesthetic. Creating content is participation. Making posts or tick tok vids, or having a youtube channel, or just making video lists, or memes, or posting photos, doesen't matter, it's all part of the expression element and a way to participate. People make visuals and mood boards all the time. Rebloging someone's contect counts too. It's all about the sharing; like hey look at this cool thing I found.

I have a tumblr blog I post photos to all the time. I see a cool patch of lichen or moss, take a pic and post it, saying something like look I found some Moss!! I recently posted a few videos of Wild Turkeys, just doing Turkey stuff. but it fits because creeks and wildlife are part of my aesthetic, so I just shared some mini nature vids. Nothing fancy, just raw footage. Another time I posted a mini video with frogs singing in the creek at dusk.

But what I've made is no video list, it is a archive of downloaded videos and right now it stands at 613 complete channels, which contain 32,000 videos!

One day I'll get a youtube channel but there isn't any point in that until I can figure out how to make SWF into MP4.

Still counts! Creating an archive is participation, and counts as a collection.

Cyberpunk might be a good place to start. You don't have to fit every aspect, there are lots of different rabbit hole to fall down. Retro-futurism is another one you might vibe with. https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Retro-Futurism
