Arty Things :)

@AzaleaArt Yes, there is a link in my signature to my (very few) customs. Lol!
Awesome I’m gonna go check them out ^-^
I have this problem, @Daintress and @AzaleaArt of being able to try all kinds of crafts and art and having the result turn out pretty well - but never completely polished. It's like I'm all hobby and no professional life, unless you count some of this art as professional. I don't share even half of what I do. I would rather be doing the art than taking the time to share it. Like: I am putting a new lining in a vintage coat right now by recycling a tunic I found in someone's trash. But yesterday I made a wicked mac and cheese and cleaned up a pony. And last night when I couldn't sleep I composed something on my harp that didn't get recorded and I probably won't remember, but it was there. It's embarrassing, so I don't share.
Woah! That’s definitely not embarrassing! Composing music is HARD and something you should definitely be proud of and restoring the coat by upcycling another piece sounds really cool :D I get not wanting to share them and that’s fine of course, but you should never be embarrassed about those things :xmashug:
The making of art is its own reward, and I sure do admire what Azalea's done and shared here!
Aww thank you very much :satisfied:
And I definitely agree that art is its own reward, I share my stuff here cause I like to since I don’t have many people I know offline that appreciate handmade stuff that much. But I make it just for myself or as gifts for friends/family ^_^ because it’s what I enjoy doing (and believe me, there are twice as many projects I do that don’t work out that I don’t share haha, but I still have fun with them)

Any fans of Spyro? My brother is a big fan of the Spyro games and of Skylanders (he’s got so many of the figures that go with it) so for his birthday I decided to customize one of the Skylander Cynder figures to look closer to her design in the rest of the games. I cut off all the spikes on her cuffs, sculpted stomach scales, bigger horns, teeth, a more dirt looking base and a cuff on her tail. Then I cut down her wings and used a hairdryer to heat them up and shape them how I wanted. And finally painted her a much darker purple and added the light purple patterns on her face and shoulders. I also added some little gems around her since it is a dragon. It took me about 3 weeks for such a small project haha but I wanted her looking perfect for him

What do you guys think? I think the snout is still a little shorter than it is on my reference but the rest looks pretty close to me

That turned out pretty great.

I was thinking of entering a sort of manga contest but it’s been a reeeeally long time since I drew any manga panels (in 9th grade I used to make up like 3 page stories and try to draw them like manga, they were not good lol) so I wanted to practice a little by drawing some panels from my favorite mangas. Here’s the first one, from Fruits Basket! The first manga I ever read and I am still in love with it. It’s only a sketch, I haven’t decided if I’m going to ink it yet
On the right is the original page.

If you want the context it’s a speech to the main character about not overthinking the future so much that you ignore what’s in front of you, using a massive pile of laundry as an example

I used draw my favorite manga panels all the time in high school! (Mostly Inuyasha and Chobits, but also some BL thrown in for a little spice lol.)

Go for it! If you don't have Clip Studio Paint I highly recommend it for comic making. It's pretty much tailor made for graphic novels. :D

Nice :) I was gonna read chobits but I’ve heard it’s really sad
The contest is actually for traditionally drawn manga so I can’t do it digitally but I have a program called Manga Studio that I use for drawing sometimes  Does clip studio do the panels for you though, cause that sounds cool

Chobits is great and is bittersweet. I never know how to recommend it b/c the first volume is weirdly fanservice oriented and the rest is like an extended existential crisis lol. I think it's definitely worth reading once.

CSP is the newest version of Manga Studio. It will do everything that Manga Studio did and has a lot of great new features, especially the 3D tools. I highly recommend upgrading.

Haha that sounds like a weird combo
Oh cool, I might have to look into that (I do tend to just stick with the old programs I already have, I’m still using photoshop cs2 lol) thanks for the tip!

If you had the latest Manga Studio you could upgrade for free for awhile. Idk if it's still available but it's worth checking out. If not, CSP usually goes on sale on black friday. I think I got my copy half-off and you get any updates for free. Unlike Adobe products with their stupid subscription service. :hmph:

If you need a light weight program Fire Alpaca is great (and free!). It's pretty intuitive and powerful even if it is lacking some bells and whistles.

Ugh yeah idk why they made it a subscription thing now, so annoying.
I’ll definitely have to see if my manga studio can be updated

It's a subscription service because they can sell it to investors better that way. If you have to rely on subscription for a service they can charge you into infinitum for it. And since Adobe is the gold standard in most professional jobs they know people will pay for it.

I was using freeware all through college (cause I was to broke to even afford the student additions haha) and most of them are just as good as the Adobe products with a few exceptions. Like, flash, I never could find a good alternative. It's defunct now tho lmao

Haha well yeah I get why they did it, I just don’t like it! I liked it as a pay once and you own it kinda thing but I guess as a subscription you can get updates and new features
Lol when I was taking an animation class there was a program the teacher recommended and he’s like “and you guys get the student price so it’s the best choice” and the student price was $135, like you I was definitely too broke for that ^^;

Today would’ve been my beautiful Biscuit’s 17th birthday, I’ve been working on these little ones for a few months and just finished today. I’m gonna give one to each of my family members who were his people
Here’s Biscuit :purpleheart:
