G1 Basic Fun Retro Ponies: A Collector's Guide: CELESTIAL PONIES and 40th Anniversary

I’m not as happy with these as I thought I would be. Probably a good thing for the budget. I just don’t think they turned out as pretty as some customs that have been done, in the past, based off the artwork.

I like these ponies but they’re definitely not my favorites…. I agree with a lot of the opinions of them being plain and not the best poses. I also don’t like the things on top of their heads, it’s just too extra in my opinion.

However, there are so many different kinds of people and we all have different taste. unfortunately basic fun can’t please everyone at the same time. I’m sure they’re working very hard and I appreciate that. I still plan on buying these, I think they’re still overall cute. I think everyone has a right to share their opinion on the matter, I don’t think anyone should be shy about doing so :)

Yes! I def want that pink space pony! I probably won't go out of my way to collect them all, but if I see them all at a store I might buy...?

I wish one was green. Like an alien themed pony or something.
Yeah! Green would have been great!

They don't blow me away but I still want them all because I'm just excited to get something new/old and I appreciate it as a homage to the 40th anniversary. Since I have all the original G1's I've have no interest in the BF releases, with the exception of a certain twinkle eye ;) nothing against the BF rereleases it's just a space limitation for me. This was really one of the first times I've actually been pretty psyched for a set from them. Instead of just releasing more of what has already been made they decided to offer something special. I think it's super cool that we're actually getting a prototype set, 30-ish years in the making and it's finally happening. What a neat way to celebrate the 40th! You could consider it the closest way to get to experience that "new toy" sensation for us G1 kids who grew up seeing in commercials or in the store the new gimmicks of G1 MLP. There have certainly been future gens with new sets and series to get excited for but for the G1 exclusive collectors this is really the first thing "new" to get excited for. Kinda like when HQG1 first came about, only with a fairly well known original Hasbro concept.
And yeah, maybe it could've been more of this or that, and maybe it is a production cost ratio or maybe it's also us as collectors getting big ideas because all we've had is the concept and our imaginations for a couple decades. Perhaps if they were actually produced at the time they would've been like this, who's to really say but I appreciate the effort regardless and am just happy to get something that feels more like a tip of the hat to the G1 product line and collectors and less just another duplicate.

You're right, I think I came across as too complainy, when it's true and I'm glad they're doing something new, and trying to make something fans have clamored for.

Thank you for sharing! I love the box for Rescue at Midnight Castle!

The graphics and packaging for all the repro stuff is so perfect I hope whoever is behind it gets a huge bonus or something haha

I'm SO excited for the celestial ponies!! Do we know if they'll be available in stores? I don't like ordering from Amazon, so I'd love to be able to get them in person.

@Grace Ruby is right, the branding for all this is so on point. Going back and looking at the first images that were released of these, it's all coming together lol. So much pretty packaging that I'm going to have to hoard like a crazy person.
