G1 Basic Fun Retro Ponies: A Collector's Guide: CELESTIAL PONIES and 40th Anniversary

The Celestial ponies are nice and I'm hoping for the pink one cause she has my favourite color combo of the bunch. However, I would've been even more excited if any sea or flutter ponies were hinted for this 40th anniversary booth. Feels like G1 ponies are becoming more and more expensive to afford, so for collectors like me who live away from the US and need to pay import/customs tax for everything on top of the already crazy prices these would've been a great alternative to make our collections feel more complete :)
Could you imagine if the one they haven't shown yet is a peach color like Wildflower or Skyflier?

Great news..! :hearteyes::redheart:

Oh wow I never thought they'd ever make Celestial ponies- how fun! I always kinda thought the Celestials would be smaller- like Flutter pony sized, but I guess that was just sheer speculation :)

Crazily enough, Pony Fair West showed a vintage prototype Celestial pony for the first time and she was in Heart Throb's pose! Very very early prototype; instead of being vinyl, it was solid resin that was painted. She had the symbol of the pink pony but totally different colors.

Since they're all earth ponies on the backcard, I assume the pegasus idea got dropped while Hasbro was still brainstorming.

I try to save precious pony room space for OG G1s but I would make room for the Celestial set!!! I hope they truly come out, that would be so cool and a wonderful nod to celebrating 40 years! I also think the plushies are cute, might need them too :) so exciting!

Any photos of that prototype..?? :O

I found this on MyLittleWiki
When I saw the Celestial ponies, I had to compare them to the concept art again. I had no idea that this year there was a Hasbro prototype one shown this year!

Cropped the picture this way to keep the photo credits but the screenshot is from My Little Wiki.

I hope they make the fourth one. The box mock-up seems like there were four intended to be made as there were four pictures of poines on the “collect them all” side of the box.

I hope they take some liberties and make one a unicorn, using the fizzy pose and give her regular eyes, or even the firefly pose and make her a Pegasus

I would be annoyed. I hate chase figures. Not the figures themselves, but the practice of it. And yeah, I know it's not unique to MLP. As my daughter collected Shopkins for a while, and my bf is a m.u.s.c.l.e man collector.
Chase figures drive me nuts too, but at least we have a great community that I sure would band together for trades. :D

The celestial ponies marbling looks cool, I don’t know how I feel about the stars on the head though. The plushies are awesome! I would definitely buy one. I’m really surprised to see them being redone.

I saw the sad confirmation up in the masterpost that the Basic Fun's are no longer being produced :(

I've been out of the scene for a while, can someone tell me if there was a specific statement released saying  why this decision was reached? I haven't been able to find an explanation on their website.

@quartz_ I think there’s some confusion, nothing new for this holiday season but for next year the 40th anniversary there were be more ponies. ;)

Oh, so the currently re-released ponies have been more or less retired, but they're going to re-release new ones for 2023?

Correct. :) There is going to be a special 40th Anniversary release of the original six and possibly more ponies too.
Ok, that cheers me up a little. Thank you:yellowheart:
