So I am finishing up two customs that I have been dying to take pictures of together. I've been having issues styling their hair. First I used the straw curling method with leave in conditioner, and the curls nearly all fell out. I'm using custom pony nylon hair incase anyone is curious.

So next I did the straw thing again, this time with boiling water. but now the curls are too tight and look weird!!! arggg!!!! do boil perms relax at all? or am I out of luck?

sigh, I'm so frustrated!

If you wet the boil perm with hot water, it should relax (or maybe even come out entirely, depending on the temp. of the water). You could alway wet it with tepid water and run a little conditioner through it and then rinse with warm water, that way you wouldn't lose the whole curl. I always use tampon applicators for rollers now, after finding that straw curls are usually too tight. The applicators make for bigger, looser, curls. I've done it with both conditioner only, as well as boil perms. Good luck!

EDIT: Here's a pic of Hyacinth with straw curls:

And here she is with her tail in "rollers"

Steamer looks intrigued... :p

I haven't tried the boil perms yet, I don't play with the hair too much, but some of the air dry curls are starting to fall out.

I use actual perm curlers for mine. They're relatively inexpensive from a beauty supply store. I also found an enormous bag of them at a thrift store with some end papers too.

I have to laugh at the recycled applicators, just don't tell they guys what they are, lol.

LOL they'd freak. But they're not recycled, they're new, because I bought a terrible brand and refuse to use them for their actual purpose! Therefore, I decided to give them a new purpose: Pony Curlers! :p

I started laughing when you said you used tampon applicators but then I saw the difference. I'm going to try that this weekend. Thanks for the tip

sigh... I've soaked the curls in water all day, I think that I am going to have to boil them straight, and then re-curl them. what a headache! lol. thanks for the tips though.

Just rinse the curls under warm/hot running water. That should be enough to relax them a bit, and the best way to get rid of curl is to comb them out when wet.

Yeah, if you heat a mug of water in the microwave, you can then hold the pony upside down by one hoof and pour the water over her hair, which, aided by gravity, should straighten it.
