I was only minding my own business here on the TP but I got an alert; I got hacked.

I dont know what to do, any tips to battle Trojans, Hackers and a **** dealer?

Slinky would be your best person to ask for help I bet. Give her a PM, she can help ya I bet!

Omg so sorry to hear that :(. I just hate hackers stuff >.< (well I guess nobody likes them ;P)

Aw that really sucks. I'm sorry.

I would definitely change your password just to be safe and make it something complicated that a computer couldn't easily figure out. I would also run a virus scan just in case. Do you know specifically what got hacked? Was it just the mlptp or was it your whole computer?

He whole computer. Even some files got replaced by unwanted stuff XP (And by unwanted, you might know what I mean :$)

Oh dear. I would definitely run the virus scans to see if the antrivirus software can get rid of some of it for you. If the operating systems seems to be acting wonky, you can try a system restore (if you have Windows) which will reset all your settings to its previous state before you got hacked.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/system-restore

I would also back up any important information in case things go really bad. If you continue to have problems, you may have to wipe your hard drive and reload the OS, but that's a last resort. It cleans evrything up pretty nicely, though. Just make sure you back up all your info before you do it because it will erase everything.

I'm sorry you are going through this! I hope it gets sorted out somehow.

I actually ran a scan and that's how I knew I got hacked, and I have to pay to destroy the hackers, which is bad because around 80% of my wallet is empty.

Spraying bug spray would work too, right?

Gah those stupid scan programs. I hate when they do that. Charge you to get your computer fixed. Is it a reputable antivirus software? Sometimes non-name brand antivirus software is a scam as they download viruses onto your computer then charge you to get it fixed. I'm not saying that's what happened, but its just one more thing to watch out for.

Can you tell I've had a million viruses/hacks in my life lol..

Bug spray? BUG SPRAY!!! Why didn't I think of that...

Fortunately I have an IT guy under my thumb, so I get free computer help. Too bad I can't have him save you!

Just realized that my friend will be back to work next week and he could save my computer from its misery....

Bug spray it is!

I only hope that the hackers were roaches and not people :p

I'm sorry to hear that, Skygleamshine! Since no ads or third party content has any accessibility to the Trading Post, I think it's most likely the virus came from another site. Our software is completely up to date and our security is very tight.

The MLPTP has not been hacked. We would have alerted everyone immediately had that been the case. To everyone, please do not post such things unless verified by an administrator, as they tend to send people into a panic for no reason. :)

@Skygleamshine, I would suggest changing all of your important passwords and running your computer's updated antivirus software, as well as a program such as MalwareBytes. It's free and it does a very thorough job.

Thank you for the advice Jewel! I will change passwords and will not use the computer since they will most likely spy on me :p

Also, MalwareBytes needs to be downloaded or is it in my computer already? Im a newb in my old computer :p

You will need to be connected to the internet to update (and sometimes to run) your virus scan software, and to download MalwareBytes if you'd like to give that a try. If it's an especially stubborn virus and your software can't remove it, you may need some technical help in person from someone who is experienced with those kinds of issues.

In the meantime, do not log into any financial services, such as online banking or Paypal. I would change your passwords for those sites (if you use them) from another computer just to be safe.

The website may not have been hacked but her personal account could have been without your software people realizing it. Therefore I am not making a false assumption.

There is a big difference between one account being hacked via computer virus, and the entire site being hacked :) The entire site has not been compromised, and I want to make that clear to other members. ;)

Thanks for clarifying. I just didn't want to be blamed for supposedly causing a panic.

Ok, you need to be a little more specific. What message did you get? Where did you get it? What were you doing when you got the message?

The TP is NOT ad-supported, so you didn't get the virus from the TP, nor was the TP hacked. Your account might have been compromised, which is very different from the entire TP being compromised. If that had happened, we probably wouldn't be on here, posting.

You have to "pay" to destroy the hackers? I'm not sure if you're saying that they have taken over your entire computer, locked you out, and demanded a ransom. Yes, it has happened, but they generally tend to go after corporations for ransoms, not average people, and you wouldn't be on here posting.

More than likely, you have a virus, and probably a pretty severely, deeply rooted one. I suggest getting what MustBeJewel said to get. I also like Avira Antivirus and SpyBot Search & Destroy. Both of those are free to download. (I trust Cnet.com to download that sort of thing).

I also suggest changing your password, something that contains numbers and special characters. DO NOT use the same password across the internet, especially on places like Paypal and banking logins. I learned my lesson the hard way many years ago when my website was hacked and I lost *everything*. I thought no one would go after a little site like mine, but nope, they did, just to show me they could. I was foolish to think a five letter password would protect me. Nope. These guys are good, and getting better every day. No one is safe on the internet anymore. :(

This is why having People In The Know is such a blessing! Great advice MustbeJewel and darcerin!

The message was of my AntiVirus and keeps blocking/crashing my internet pages randomly. I was on the Show And Tell forum when it happened. The message said "Virus alert! Here is a list of hackers;" Which seemed very strange to me. Maybe it was a trick to make me pa and continue bugging me and my little sick computer.
Sorry to hers about your site! Some people have no heart whatsoever to destroy a little site!
I will stick to all these tips, thank you all very much, @darcerin, @MustBeJewel and @Marble Dragon!
