Hello! Just joined this evening on a quiet weekend, so figured I'd go ahead and make an introduction post. This is my first time joining the MLPTP, though I have been a member of the online community since around 1998. I've been Marbletoast since the beginning. Despite being on multiple message boards over the years, I for some reason never ended up here, but I am happy to see that it is still alive and well when so many of the old establishments have faded. Glad to finally step through the door!

Like I imagine most if not all of us, I started "collecting" as a little kid when my slightly older cousins handed their collection (consisting of the earliest years of G1) down to me when I was about six. I started getting ponies as gifts brand new around the same time, around 1990-91. I "stopped" collecting around 10, when my mother then passed my collection down to MY younger cousin. It didn't take long for me to wish I had them back, however, and thankfully as she got a bit older she was willing to pass them back to me. So I really started intentionally collecting in middle school when the G2 were released, and I first found the online community shortly after. Discovering the old websites like TnT and Avalon changed the whole experience for me, in particular introducing me to shared fanfiction (I had always told stories with my ponies, but never knew it was something there was an audience for). I think the stories written by HQT have the fondest spot in my early collecting experience.

I collected rabidly and was an active part of the community all the way until the release of G4, so my collection is G1-3. I stepped back at that point, did some living abroad, went back to school, etc. etc. until finally one day I dug out my packed up collection and put a few out on display. From there, I started adding a few here and there. They are a lot more expensive than they were back then! How I collect has changed a lot. The characters I once wrote and created art around changed over time into human characters in my modern writing, and I had less investment in anything other than the aesthetic of them. But lately I've been toying with the idea of digging out some very old fanfic concepts and brushing them off, just for fun. Not sure where that kind of things goes any more, though!

In real life, I'm a zookeeper for reptiles and amphibians. I also collect Breyers and realistic animal figures of many types and brands.

Rambling at this point, thanks for bearing with me, but I've been around awhile, just haven't been here! And the only other place I am right now is a Facebook group, and I really started missing the forum structure. So I thought I'd ease back in and see what the world was like these days. :) I included a photo of the small part of my collection that is currently on display. My living space is tight, so I have to be selective.

Welcome aboard! I sympathize with you, I prefer the forum setups to Facebook as well! Definitely far easier to keep track of conversations and trending topics. I've been here for years but I'm still finding out new features I never noticed before, haha!

Welcome! It’s nice to meet you. Do you have any favorite ponies from each generation? About how many ponies do you think you have in your collection total? You have these nicely displayed!

Welcome! That's so cool that you're a zookeeper. I really enjoy the reptile and amphibian displays.

By the way, your display looks great! Everything is so organized. :)

Thank you! I do think there's a lot to be said for ideas and topics that don't vanish in less than 24 hours, heh. And lord there are a lot of features! Much to learn!

Thank you, same to you! Tex, Copper Glow, and Kimono are my top picks for the first three generations. :) I've got an estimated 500 or so, with around 300 of those being G1 and only a sad little 25 being G2. But that does include duplicates, I just know roughly how many are in each storage bin, haha.

Thank you! I love hearing when people enjoy the reptiles! They sometimes get the short straw when it comes to public affections, haha, but they are my whole life pretty much. I'm raising some baby garter snakes, pine snake, and corn snakes right now. :happyhearts: And about to have some baby green tree frogs!

Welcome! My dream was always to be a zookeeper - life took me in other directions! Now I just have pets & volunteer at a shelter!
It's really cool that you're into herps, they definitely get overlooked but I can spend hours in a good reptile building!

Your collection looks great!

Thank you! Shelter work is just as vital for the critters who rely on you, that's very cool that you give your time to them. That's tough work, physically and emotionally!

Welcome to the MLPTP, @Marbletoast ! :) That's awesome to have been around MLP so long, and to be a zookeeper! I love reptiles and I was blessed enough to visit Australia Zoo last summer. Reptiles are amazing creatures and it's a shame so many folks give them a bad reputation! <3 Glad you've found us! <3
