Does anyone know why the ponies became less squishy?

I've noticed the G1 ponies are a lot squishier than the G3 ponies I have. Is there a reason why the squishiness changed (e.g. some toy regulation), or did Hasbro somehow decide that harder ponies were better?

I've also noticed that the adult G1 ponies tend to be larger than regular ponies from other generations. Personally, I think the G1 ponies are a perfect size for a little pony. Is there a reason why Hasbro keeps changing the size of the ponies?

It's just a change in the plastic. G1 can get very hard, cancer, regrind, plastizier leakage, and other issues that the newer plastics don't seem to have. Probably cheaper, too. I liked the squishy ponies.

I have a G2 with regrind.
The Divine Shines are infamous for leakage and destroying their own glitter.
I've heard that Hip Holly gets sticky and smelly when she has leakage.

I have no idea why they changed it to harder plastic? Maybe it was cheaper or something.

They certainly didn't get rid of the issues, and I'm sure age is a major factor in why g1's seem to show more problems. I do think that the hard plastic is cheaper and, with all the laws about toys, probably was initially considered safer.
