So, I'm pretty new to collecting, but as I'm from the Netherlands I have seen a few dutch ponies floating around on second-hand dutch websites. Today I saw someone bid 60 euros (and counting) on a G1 baby schoolpony with its original comb. This same day I also found a dutch heart pony going for about 85 euros. I looked on ebay and there were a few offers for dutch ponies for 200 dollars or more!

I really want to collect these ponies because they're from my country (and their names sound really funny to me). But my question is: are they really that rare?
I feel like I have seen at least 2 original dutch ponies at the thrift store before (no, I didn't pick them up sadly). And from what I've seen, a fair few people seem to own at least one of them on this forum. Why are they going for such crazy prices? Are there only a few?

If you know anything about this, own a dutch pony, or know how much of them were made I would really appreciate it. I'm curious about why they are such a phenomenon.

They are incredibly hard to find in the U.S. in excellent condition. I love them, too. I know that the diary pony is popular due to the color, but I do believe their production run was much smaller. It makes sense, smaller population in the country, smaller production run. They are highly sought after, though. Those prices you quoted? I wish I could buy them that low.

Yes, I would agree with what Tak has said. These are all Euro exclusive ponies so they are smaller manufactured runs and thus more difficult to obtain overseas.

Obviously if you see them now, buy them! Lol Even if it’s not for your own personal collection, you’d sell fairly quick to one of us desperate people in Canada and US. Lol

Having said that we are seeing yet another fluctuation with pricing for G1’s since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. We have seen cohorts of new collectors who are willing to pay astronomical amounts for ponies just to have a sought after pony for bragging rights. So people are selling at higher than normal prices for a lot of our lovely ladies. This has put a lot of us “oldies” off of buying/selling right now because a lot of these people are taking advantage of slower than average shipping rates and making claims via eBay/PayPal stating things were not sent and they get refunded and a free pony. :hmph: Ultimately there’s a lot of factors going into pony prices right now.

Really? That's awful. Isn't there any kind of purchase protection on ebay for sellers too? I feel bad for the people who have lost their ponies and their money over this.

Haha, even if I wanted to, I couldn't right now on a student budget. I could provide links to the ponies tough if there are people interested on here. Not this thread obviously, but I could make a new one and help some of you guys around the sites. Or help purchase them and then ship them to you (Tak told me about this). I know my way around the sites and can check out dutch, german, and french sites.

Where would a tread like this fit? I still don't know my way too well around the forum. If there's a real intrest in this, I'll make it. It'll be fun to share the excitement with everyone.

I don't know if it's technically allowed in one of the forums... @Skybreeze ? @MustBeJewel ?

What I would recommend doing is setting up with members directly. As this would be a transaction between you and another member.

If you see something you can always take a photo, post it in the show and tell and offer to pickup if anyone wanted it.

It seems to me that you could be @Tak’s personal shopper overseas. ;)
