Are Twinkle Eyed ponies safe from a dunk in the hot dye water? Has anyone tried it with a bare faced TE, or should the gem be protected with masking tape?

I tend to work on a theme (ponysona), and I need to introduce a Gingerbread to my lover Rit Dyemore in Frost Gray, who appears to not rub off the way colored dyes do (especially reds). But I'm not saying you should take my word on that, just saying that I'm not too worried about it.

I'm sure someone's dyed a TE at some point....

but vaseline would just melt off, right? So far I'll try some fabric tape I found near the sink, we'll see if that works. Gingie gets here on Friday....

EDIT: I think I'm gonna dunk her without tape. If the eyes are dyed they will still be blue-gray and see through, with or without finish. or the iridescent finish will repel the dye and they will remain the same. Another possibility is that the finish could come off and they will be left undyed. All those options are a win-win, but for anyone else who wants to do it I'll post what the results are. The glue on the tape is too likely to screw up the eye and then be hard to get off.

@Tak: Okay, also, do you remember your wonky eyed Basic Fun Skyrocket? That has to be a factory error, because BF Skyrocket, according to every pic I've seen, and regular Skyrocket have BLUE eyes. I don't have BF yet, but it's a good thing you kept her! Have you seen the other eye? They might be mismatched!
