G3 Exclusive Pony Confusion

When I have done research about my ponies a while ago, I remember coming across G3 Royal Ribbon (who I have) being a Target Exclusive pony.
There are pictures where her box says “TARGET EXCLUSIVE” and a couple of others where her box doesn’t have it. Even her My Little Wiki page says she was only available there. So I checked again and it still says the same.

I live in the UK and we don’t have Target stores here. I remember getting my Royal Ribbon from Woolworths when it was still about, the same one where I got quite a lot of my ponies and sets from.

Are Target ponies actually exclusive to there or did Woolworths get whatever Target did?
Regional ponies like this can confuse me too because I don’t really know who was exclusive

I believe that Woolworths and target are owned by the same parent company. Either that, or they bartered a deal.

I read the Wikipedia page for it a while back because I loved the shop. I checked again and quickly searched Target's and it doesn't look as if they had the same.

I guess they must have got a deal for the ponies and many other great deals because that shop was amazing. It makes me wonder what other "exclusive" ponies were actually also here too

Whether something is an exclusive can easily vary by country. And even if it's an exclusive in multiple countries, which store it's an exclusive to tends to vary based on what stores are in each country.

My Little Wiki has a bit of a US bias, information-wise

Mylittlewiki is U.S. managed, so yeah, definitely biased.

Oh, I see. So she may have not been exclusive in any particular store over here but over there you could only get her from a certain chain

I honestly don't know where to start to see which chains are related outside the U.S. They have many more international exclusives throughout the years that prove to be worth much more in price and harder to find than any store exclusive in the U.S.

The ponies that were target exclusives in the US were sometimes sold in other stores in other countries. In Canada we sometimes got them at a Canadian department store chain, Zellers, sometimes still with the Target Exclusive sticker on the package. The distribution was a bit hit or miss, however, probably depending on whether or not the Canadian chain decided to stock certain items or not.

In the same vein, during the G3 era, we got some but not all the TRU exclusive ponies at Canadian TRU stores. Most of the holiday ponies were not imported here, for example.

Picking up a pony from a store with the Target exclusive sticker on as a kid must have been pretty confusing for kids who didn’t know about Target

I don’t really remember seeing any holiday ponies over here during the G3 era either, only the Very Minty Christmas ponyville figures... Ah well, we have online shopping now
