Fighting with bots that won't even pay what I will

Yesterday, I tried to win an ebay auction near the end by offering a max bid that was much higher than the current price. Typical stuff, just the absolute max I would pay for the pony. With five seconds left in the auction, the max bid jumped just above mine, my max bid being well over one hundred dollars above where it was currently. So I lost. Well okay, I'd been babysitting that auction and dreaming of it but whatever. Bots aren't against the rules.

Today, it's relisted! Whoever won didn't pay! So now I have to go through the whole process AGAIN just to, likely, be sniped AGAIN by a bot with no intention of actually paying what I'll pay. I even messaged the seller with a flat offer to see if they'd just sell me the pony straight out and they seemed mad at ME for placing a large bid before. I would've paid it!! How frustrating!! Have any of y'all had similar ebay woes?

This is why I don’t buy from eBay anymore. This and their insane shipping fee’s that are 1000% unrealistic.

Ebay is for sure an absolute pain, but it's where I've found the bulk of my ponies haha. I don't think I'll be able to find this particular deal elsewhere, I've never seen it anyway, so I'll have to stick it out again. And probably lose again. Maybe the seller will just sell it to me directly after the second time.

I just don’t buy from anyone I haven’t had prior contact with anymore.

I've been outbid in the last second but I can't recall that I've seen the item then turn back up due to non-payment. That's gotta be frustrating though! Like you said, you have to go through the whole rigmarole again :( I will agree 100% about the shipping prices though! Especially on international packages using the global shipping program. I wanted to buy a greeting card from the UK, and it was gonna be 35.00 just for the shipping!!!! For a 5x7 paper card!!! *sheesh*

I don't understand why they were mad at you o_O Did they know the person with the bot or something? Last time someone pulled out of paying, I actually got the item for being next in line. That sounds reeeally sketchy!

this is why i rarely bid on auctions unless it has no bids til the last minute... yeah, that seller doesn't seem like a very good seller.

Was this a baby pony? An auction I was watching got relisted even though someone won it >.>

i'm sorry you had to deal with that and i hope you get your pony! this is 100% why i avoid listings that sell via bid. i won't be able to compete with the bot army :hmph:

As someone selling right now, this is good info to have. I opted for eBay because it's pretty user friendly and I wanted an easy option to clear out my collection from storage. So far I've had one person win a bid and still not pay, and one placed an offer that I accepted, but then they sent an image with a phone number to arrange payment which felt super sketch, and they still haven't responded to my payment request through ebay. I may need to reconsider the bid system and put up some BIN up, I hadn't considered the bot problem.

Twinkler and Princess Misty may be relisted soon!

As someone who has both bought and sold on Ebay, it can definitely be frustrating. The part that sucks the most is that sometimes it's the only option...
At this point I really only buy Ebay items that I can purchase in the moment and don't have to bid on. I also don't sell anymore because it was stressing me out.

I think the easy part is figuring out what things have gone for, so I try to price lower than whatever that average is figuring if people bid it up, cool. I didn't want to commit to a Buy Now price that was inappropriately high, not knowing the market well, OR inappropriately low, since at the end of the day, I am looking to make a buck off my stuff. This conversation has given me some thoughts to consider though.

Maybe put things on BIN starting on the higher end of their value but allow offers? I always feel like I got a deal when someone accepts an offer of mine, even if I was only bringing it down to a more realistic price :lolpony:

Yeah! I like offers!

Interesting. The ones I did have offers open on were the ones that felt most like scams. Someone offered $20 on an $8 post, and $600 on a $300. I took down most of the offer options because none of the ones I was getting seemed real, and the one "real" one I accepted won't pay me now and was definitely a scam!

Just can't win. Lol!
