So, I just got my very first G3 pony. A Cotton Candy II, and I'm starting to realize that this thing is 1.) ANCIENT Like old probably from 2006 and 2.) Its in AMAZING condition and I have not the first clue on how to take care of something like this.
I am very new to the community and I have seen other people just keep ponies on shelves, but this one is in such good condition im thinking about just keeping it in this plastic bag it came in.
Mind, my house is not dirty by any means other then the occasional spider I see in my bathroom, but I do have 2 cats. Nether of them can reach my shelf but its still something im worried about.

Any advice for a first time collector?

And here I thought you were talking about G1 Cotton Candy from 1982/3 when you say old :winkpony: which by the way is not old cause then that would mean that I’m old and I’m totally not LOL
Personally I don’t keep my ponies in bags cause I feel like the plastic can’t breathe. The best thing I think you can do for any generation is make sure it’s clean and dry and keep it in a well ventilated, even temperature environment.

With my ponies, they’re all childhood ones so I don’t know if anyone does anything special to their ponies in particular. The Cotton Candy you have is a G3 one, not G1 but you’re right about there being a G1 Cotton Candy. You’re learning so it’s okay!

My own collection (mainly G3 too) is kept in a plastic box under my bed with the lid on, like they’ve always been kept. My Breezies are on my shelf with my G4 blind bags and brushables along with the G1 style Upside-Down Applejack. I’m trying to keep her hair as neat as possible by not styling it and keeping it brushed because she’s the newest pony I have. I’ve found a toothbrush is better to brush them with instead of the ones they’ve come with but that’s just me.

Like what @Gingerbread said, keeping them clean and dry may be the best thing for any generation. I wouldn’t panic if you did get them wet though, they can be cleaned and as they’re toys, they have pretty strong bodies if they were dropped

By the way, I also have two cats and they’re fine around my ponies. They most they’d do is just rub their faces on them

skdfsklhdhlk It says on your profile that you joined in 2006 and I was only 5 years old in 2006! fkslklhd!!!!!!
But!!! Got it! The ventilation might be an issue since im immunocompromised and doing online college and havent seen the sunlight or gone outside in like a year haha!

Ops! Just caught that I said G1 and not G3! Thanks!!!
And thanks for the info! Someone is helping me put an old shelf up! Once I get it up I will share pictures! I really really really want to take care of them well. When I opened the bag she came in I was super excited! It was the very first time I held a real MLP toy from my childhood!

ANCIENT Like old probably from 2006
DDD: *crumbles into dust*

I usually give mine a good scrub and style before I display them on a self. Don't submerge them in water unless you're willing to pop the head off to make sure they're completely dry. You don't want them to develop mold. Would also recommend keeping them from touching each other so colors don't stain etc.

Just give them quick dust now and then with a duster (don't use pledge tho).

You can order a pretty inexpensive air filter. Even the salt rock ones help. You can even just have a small fan going. Just to keep the air from being stagnant.

I keep my overhead fan on 24/7, so I think I should be good!!! Thanks!

I use an overhead fan as well. They're great!

Congratulations on your first pony, by the way. It must be super exciting to get a pony from when you were a child!

Dusting/cleaning is actually a pretty common issue that collectors face, I think. Especially as the collection grows, since it takes time! If a pony from 2006 is ancient, my childhood collection from the 80s must be prehistoric! ^_~ My family and I actually hold an annual pony dust-a-thon to get the job done, otherwise the poor dears would live in mounds of dust. (So most of the ponies on display only get cleaned once a year.) We use microfiber cloths, but someone else might have another suggestion.

If she gets particularly dirty over time, there are ways to give her a "deep clean." The Pony Preservation Project is a great place to start reading up about it.

"Ancient: 2006". Ooof. Add me to the growing dust pile, here... (lol) :lolpony:

Everyone's already given you plenty of good advice, so there's not much for me to add. If you're worried about dust, you could always look into a glass-door display cabinet, perhaps? But congratulations on getting your first pony! :D

Also as mentioned, the MLP Preservation Project is a great resource for tips on cleaning and caring for your ponies. :)

If your pony doesn't have any problems, like mold, rust or marks just a quick wash, dry and brush will do. Dust and brush now and then.

Congratulations, G3 CC is a cutie.

If 2006 is ancient, I am a fossil. Just wheel me to the museum, y'all. I iz ded.

Your Cotton Candy looks so nice and so soft! Congratulations!

It’s a shame about the shelves but it looks like they just slot? It’s understandable how frustrating that must be
Either way, your pony looks very nice :rolleyespony:

Sorry about the shelf! Is it something you can take apart and redo?
