so, my girlfriend is big on aquariums, and recently wanted to set a small aquarium up on my desk next to my sewing machine. i was ok with it and she just got the bare bones of it set up when we realized its actually right under my pony shelves... its pretty small(2.5 ish gallons), but it is directly underneath my shelves and the lid doesnt entirely cover the water so im concerned about the evaporation getting my ponies all humid.

here are some pictures for an idea of how close the tank is. theres only about an inch of a gap on the lid, but it still makes me a little nervous. for the time being ive pushed all the ponies on the lowest shelf to the left and put a sacrificial bait pony directly over the tank to see if anything happens, but if anybody has any experience before that poor pony may or may not be subjected to mold id really appreciate hearing it!

I love aquariums! I have one too! (and had a 75g saltwater that I sold off last year)

Is it freshwater or salt water?

Saltwater can splash salt onto the ponies and it may not be good.

For a tank that small (What is it? 5 gallons?) I wouldn't worry too much, it won't give off as much humidity as you think. But if you feel your ponies are damp or too warm, I'd move them to prevent mold from forming.

My ponies are in a room with my lizards, toads, invertebrates, and during winter my tortoise. So the humidity is a tad higher but I wouldn't put them directly above or next to any of this.

My fish tanks are downstairs and I don't have anything directly above them. The splash out can go a ways and you'll need space to reach around for maintenance.

hmm i see, the tank is fresh water and she has another tank with much less wiggle room so shes in pretty good practice with finagling for maintenance without making too much of a mess, so im not too worried about splashing. its a really little tank, so i may just come back and check on them every day to see how theyre doing and move it if necessary

i wish you the best of luck!
