they are a real perfect fit! really snug and secure

They have the playset hook which is less aesthetically appealing BUT in general they look pretty. My quest to replicate G2 wings on a base stronger than the hairclips is still on, and this has been a big step forward. I have tried with other G2 wait accessories like Sun Sparkle‘s kite and the umbrella holders but they haven’t been sturdy enough to balance the weight of the wings

hopefully these will yield better results!

also will probably make a mould just for these little butterfly wings because they are super cute too

edit: the end aim of this is for them to be for sale on the G2 Re-Do site. I don’t think they’ll be factory made for a long time if ever, but I will hopefully be offering them as handmade accessories in small batches!

Handmade in small batches is probably the way to go, since the lack of any really good canonical wings for G2s definitely leaves a lot of room for personal interpretation and taste. That's awesome though that you found something with a good fit!

Definitely, we’re hoping for proper G2 Re-Do pegasi eventually but for the clip on wings I think handmade

-nods- I ended up thinking of PonyIsland Wishing Pony or general fairy-style wings, though, like of a more elegant variety than cutesy. That would genuinely be good to see, even if it is sticking with the fairy wings instead of pegasus.

Even for pegasus wings though, personally I've always preferred the somewhat more realistic and regal type over the more chibi and cute kind.

I’m pretty sure I put my mockup in this thread somewhere, they’re going to be actual pegasus wings, based on the g3 dolly mix ponies

I don't think you did? I don't recall seeing this specifically, though I believe it was talked about.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't really think I'll care for them, personally. If I bought them with these wings it'd be more for a lack of better options. But they seem like the kind of thing a lot of other collectors would like.

aww that’s a shame but they’ve been popular with everyone else! There may be options for other styles later

For the wings I got hold of a small pony that I thought was a mini g3 fakie but is actually hasbro marked for inspiration! It has really pretty wings in my opinion and once I've got a 3D scan of it I can try out different sizes and positions on the back. I think they're super pretty but too close to the butt for my taste lol, I'll probably position them closer to the shoulders.

(Out of interest does anyone know who this pony is lol? She's marked 2008 Hasbro and is clearly g3 in style, but is very small, has really unique wings and isn't a mcdonald's toy I don't think)

Actually just found out she's Medley from the 'dolly mix' release where G1 ponies were released as small G3 style ponies. The wings are unique in style I believe and only Medley and Firefly have the wings. So quite an interesting wing design and putting them on G2s is maybe a nice bridge as these are sort of both G1 and G3 at the same time

Ooohhh, wow. No wonder I hadn't noticed it, I don't believe I was here that early, and I never ended up going back and looking.

Hard to believe that this time last year I was discussing early dreams of making G2 ponies and now they‘re in production. Good memories! The wing styles, the 3d print adventures……

Eeeeehhh, debatable. I do like Nightmare Moon's wings, genuinely, but in strictly considering fully feathered wings... Celestia's wings probably get the closest, but their shape still looks strange to me.

In all of (and only considering) official MLP, the best ones would be the Brush n' Glow ponies in Tales, though they were never sold like this.

I think I actually remember having a moment of catharsis when I first saw these ponies haha, because they actually had fairly normal and visually appropriately proportioned wings. Although they were inconstant even during the short time they were on screen.

I don’t hate the G4 wings but the ones I’ve picked out have additional details on the insides which are pretty! I always found the G4 wings just a little too cartoony. I love the feathery details to be obvious

I meant regular pegasus ones, but yeah, if it is mostly the problem of size, then just Dream Beauty-tier separate mold wings are an answer)

I did not come up with this, I saw someone else call them that few times XD

I myself kind of think they are shaped fuzz, like, skin outgrowths, containing magic to ensure lift-off.
 
G1 wings do look like corn. I thought that way back in the day. This was especially obvious when I got Dancing Butterflies for Easter one year.

I think the dollymix wings are the perfect shape for slender little G2s. Although maybe with holes inserted, G5 wings would be a good choice, being detailed, large and feathery on smaller bodies. Whatever you think would work best.
