G2 custom blanks?

It's definitely happening, just a bit slowly right now! These wings will be moulded to the bodies like all the other generations, I'm working on the 3D files currently! I'd love to eventually make replica clip on wings especially because all my twinkle star ones are broken and I've not got any of the unicorn clip ons. But pegasus bodies will have wings on their body like G1, G3 and G4

At the minute we're torn between putting clear gems in the eyes (eyes will be printed on) and just leaving the holes empty for people to put whatever colour they'd like in
This is awesome. Can't wait

Moulded on wings sound brilliant! Finally, some proper G2 pegasi

The clear gems also sounds pretty nice too. To me, they are a unique part of G2 which sets them apart from other gens. I can see including gems could put your costs up and there would need to be a way to be sure that the gems stay in. Unless gems could be offered/sent loose with the empty holes for customising

I wonder if colour would show through if someone was to paint inside the gem holes and then put clear gems in…

Yeah that is the biggest thing, having the gems set into the eyes will honestly be more costly than the ponies themselves! And will make actually customising harder.

The method I'm leaning towards is also stocking various coloured gems so people can order gems at the same time

I'm loving how much love this project has! I'm constantly working away behind the scenes on making this a reality.

The way things are looking so far is that we'll start with producing just normal blank ponies, first up is the 'sky skimmer' pose because it's my favourite haha I love how elegant and cute it is - seen with sky skimmer, secret tale, parlour ivy etc. My other priority will be the 'clever clover' pose with the hoof up because this is super cute.

Because I can 3d print in HD with the resin printer for those who are following in the Facebook group, this means I can customise the ponies sent off for moulding, which unfortunately do have to be sacrificed (I've been hoarding the baity-est of bait ponies to choose from and we will honour their sacrifice 'cause it breaks my heart a little haha). But as well as sending ponies in their original state, this also means I can add custom parts such as horns and wings (I do have a slightly baity silver swirl that could become a unicorn mould but I don't know if I can let go of her).
I'm not too sure about the selling model yet - whether ponies will be sold whole or if they can be mix-and-matched by buying heads and bodies separately to allow for way more variety in pose and appearance.

Here is on the list of what I'm hoping to achieve so far:
- Customisable versions of all the existing body and head poses (No magic motion or posable ponies as too many extra manufacturing steps and lack of popularity for customising)
- The same but with pegaus wings and unicorn horns
- The babies
- Babies with pegasus wings and unicorn horns
- Entirely new poses including sitting, laying, rearing, seaponies
- Basic accessory replicas such as the clip on wings, tiaras, leg bracelet thingys

The absolute dream of all dreams lol:

- Plushies and playsets
- Custom characters like the HQG1Cs with full colour, hair and paint. My background is in character design for animation so designing real ponies would make my life complete

In terms of making all of this a reality - I am speaking with Clipper who makes the HQG1Cs back and forth but he's been busy with Ponyfair recently and a project like this will never happen overnight anyway. I am saving some personal money to try to invest into this, but it's likely that we will need to work on a pre-order basis as the moulding process is very expensive!

Loving seeing the momentum still going with this
I'll definitely be there when the time comes to grab some!! <3 :twohearts:

well, it would be a good idea to actually sell jewels, maybe even tweezers and super glue, if you are going to do that (the way HQG1C sells hair for rerooting, ribbons, etc). It is quite difficult to replace eye gems. I did it with SS10 (that's 3mm) pointed back Swarovskis from Etsy, sold by several shops, but I could not use them to replace the gems on ponies missing only one gem. They stick out of the eye too far to match (but they look great when replacing both gems, they don't stick out nearly as far as G1 TEs, and they catch the light without a chameleon effect). According to Lavender Lagoon, one could attempt SS10, but I purchased some SS8 (2.5mm) and they haven't arrived yet. When they do I'll get back to ya!

I'm glad you got the feedback you needed from this thread for it to actually be a thing (kinda through the roof about it actually! :ponylove: :Flutter::Flutter4::Flutter:). Take the time you need to get it going properly, buy an extra Silverswirl, etc ( Kjiertenwonderland on Etsy? Girrrrl I once decided to take the shipping hit since I'm U.S. and I got so much cool G2 stuff from her all at once! Lady Sky Skimmer's drawbridge!). The playsets for G2 were very, very detailed and special, very medieval, tiny violets, wild roses, and pansies all over everything...le sigh....HQG1C doesn't do that, but if you could get Morning Glory's tower mold that would rock. Maybe start with the connectable fences? Whatever crosses over with G1 would be a good thing.

Clip-on wings are a big part of G2, molded on wings would be like a new thing that isn't part of them originally, but it is a great idea. Will they be feathered or butterfly like the original? I'm really gung-ho for clip on because they appear in the comics, and as @Leave a Whisper said they don't go with the ponies aesthetically -which makes them very signature for that generation, and they could become a big marketing gimmick for your line when people buy several pairs: some pairs for ponies that are missing them, some for customs, and some for collectors (and eventually non collectors) to actually wear in their hair (starting at conventions): Five years ago a club downtown had "ladies eighties" night. Now the eighties are such a trend that 80's night is every night because the fashions are no longer humorous and campy, but chic and cutting edge. 90's hair is just around the corner (oh god), and boys will be wearing them too (if only I hadn't lost my hair!- it's okay, I'll have the wings grafted directly to my scalp).

So I think the Sky Skimmer mold is also the mold used for the princes, there is only one unicorn pose, and you'd be starting with a boy in the lineup just like G2 did. Awesome! Also....I think the fences from the beginning of the line are a good idea, especially to hook HQG1C collectors. You could make larger versions as well with a printer, right? For G1's? HQG1C has no playsets, so it might be a good idea.

Agreed, they're gonna look soo cute with molded wings.

I'm lurking in this thread because it's really exciting so I'm keeping tabs on it! About the gems issue, if it's really affecting the cost then maybe it might be better to offer them without at least until the project has momentum financially.

Are gems that size easy for customizers to get ahold of themselves? I would say only include the gems in the eyes if it really would be next to impossible for people to get them anywhere else.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for the wings!

This was my thinking, the right sized gems are quite easy to locate. Someone in the thread said they had issues with getting gems to fit, but I know Bennitta aka Moonshimmer sells all colours in the perfect sizing, and you can use swarovski crystals or craft gems of the right size and shape too! Having pre-fitted gems would honestly probably double the cost of one blank pony unfortunately

For the wings I got hold of a small pony that I thought was a mini g3 fakie but is actually hasbro marked for inspiration! It has really pretty wings in my opinion and once I've got a 3D scan of it I can try out different sizes and positions on the back. I think they're super pretty but too close to the butt for my taste lol, I'll probably position them closer to the shoulders.

(Out of interest does anyone know who this pony is lol? She's marked 2008 Hasbro and is clearly g3 in style, but is very small, has really unique wings and isn't a mcdonald's toy I don't think)

Actually just found out she's Medley from the 'dolly mix' release where G1 ponies were released as small G3 style ponies. The wings are unique in style I believe and only Medley and Firefly have the wings. So quite an interesting wing design and putting them on G2s is maybe a nice bridge as these are sort of both G1 and G3 at the same time

Those wings look so charming on the G2 body shape! I really hope these happen!

This looks perfect. This is how I would imagine the wings would sort of look anyway on a G2. The row of feathers in the middle kind of mirror the feathering around the hooves too and still give the impression of being a G2 pony, not a mishmash.

I’m glad you found a good reference point :flutter2:

I like it. The style fits nicely, and your dollymix medley is pretty

I am completely sold on wings based on this photoshop! Excellent!

Just an update on this project! We're moving forward behind the scenes. I have a good idea of how much this is going to cost now and I am weighing up the best way to fund it.

I have a manufacturer in mind

I'm thinking about a kickstarter to see if we can raise the money to make it a reality. This would also allow stretch goals such as extra moulds - mainly the pegasus body which I desperately want and the unicorn head. Then after that alternate poses etc etc

At the minute it's looking as though one blank pony would retail for £10 / $13 with discounts for bulk orders, which would be how the kickstarter would be mostly structured. If the project got funded, everyone who backed would recieve their ponies

Does this sound good to people? Would you prefer a private preorder basis? Another funding method?

sounds great, although I don't understand this stuff enough to have any ideas for any other funding method, lol.

Me either haha. I'd rather use a company to collect the funds where everyone is protected than take preorder payments directly myself. That way everyone can get updates and I can manage orders a lot easier
