G2 customs a la HQG1C?

So every time I see someone customize a g2, I wonder if there's a way to make g2s without customizing a pre-existing pony. Not that there's anything wrong with g2 customs, I just personally see g2s so rarely that it got me thinking :satisfied: Of course there's HQG1C for g1 ponies and customs, which uses molds and not an actual 80s pony. I was wondering if anyone's ever seen anyone try to make a g2 mold or similarly "create" a g2 custom instead of making it from another g2? I feel like it would be pretty cool to do something like HQG2C - I don't have any idea what the actual process would entail, but I find the idea interesting!

Would any of you be interested in such a thing if it were to exist?

Not a fan of G2 personally, but I am curious how the process works. How did fans get the molds they use for the hqg1c? Did they have to go to Hasbro for the rights

It’s on the list to make some, starting with a baby and unicorn I believe. But we aren’t producing any new molds until 2021. I am out of space, and budget is a bit tight right now.
You're awesome!!! <starting to save up now>

I don't think they had to go through hasbro since they make their own molds and don't produce any copyrighted characters. It stands for
H-high
Q-quality
G-generation
1
C-custom
So... they aren't claiming to be anything that would infringe, they are just die-hard fans with excellent ideas and exceptional capability.

As for the molds, some were sold, some went with retired workers, there are already customizers out there who make their own molds. You can make one by taking the hair out, taking it apart, making a mold of that, which you could conceivably use to make a reusable pony mold. (Note: I've never done this and never will, I don't know the exact method or matierials. I'd rather buy from those with more capability and those with steadier hands for most non-mold customs)

I think people can get away with recasting g1 ponies cause their patent expired? Something to do with g1's are so old and been out of production for so long (I have no clue how this stuff works)

But people couldn't get away with recasting g4 pony molds, unless they're you know, China lol

Cause China is doing g4 bootlegs constantly
