I've just seen this pony on ebay and I'm confused. Her eyes and symbol look fakie-style, but her hoof markings seem to be genuine Hasbro. Has anybody seen her before and does know anything about her?

Oh! I thought I recognised this one. I think this could be a prototype, I tried to find where I could have seen her before and I found this thread from 2012

It’s so odd that she has Celestia’s sun though

I didn't find a single pic when I googled it just before, so thanks a lot for your link!

So it seems she's some kind of prototype that was sold directly by the the factories.

That is so cool! Congratulations

I haven't bought her, I'm on the fence to be honest. Price is good, I love the styling size, but while I like the symbol and her eye decorations, I think they don't go very well together, plus she's all pink.

my understanding is that is a bootleg or fakie not a prototype so buy it knowing it is a knock-off not an early version

she's from Taobao

fakie

Eyes make me think of the G3 art ponies - it's possible this pony was some sort of paint test utilising a G3 styling pony they already had in the factory. Additionally her paint looks like it's unfinished - missing top/final layer if that makes sense? The fact the base is seemingly a legit Styling Pinkie makes me lean more into 'factory test' than 'fakie' ;)

Yes, that's what I gathered from the Arena thread as well. It seems the factory needed a model to test Hasbro's (or their own) latest design ideas, so she was for some reason chosen to act as a kind of Frankenstein's monster. But as her body seems to be a legit Pinkie Pie, she's not a fakie, but rather an experimental ground for the factory. In IT we would call this a sandbox system. ;)

I google image searched her face and she is on the pony wiki as "mystery pony". I like her tinsel, anyway. Whatever she is

the eye detail is from the "tattoo pony' from 2011, so maybe this pinkie pie was a test for that. but that doesn't explain why a detail from a standard size pony would be tested on one of the larger stylin' size ponies. the strangest part is the fact that she has a green version of Celestia's symbol. I would assume that this pinkie was being used to test multiple random details, and the symbol is green probably because of a printing error.

There have been prototypes listed on Taobao before.
while it is true there were seemingly some early versions of G4 that were sold through taobao this is a G3 mold. There were also several G4 "errors" of head-body swaps that to me seem a bit more intentional once the hype became known these things sold to collectors on ebay... so again I would just caution folks that china has a history of knock-off resales given the creation period of this piece is after FiM launched.

Don't get me wrong, I would have loved a giant mizunko pony being made. It is unfortunate IMO that the pony project never yielded more statuesque styled MLP as I would have loved that as a collector but Hasbro made kids toys so it is understandable why the focus was instead on tons of "main" characters redone ad nauseum...

I always say "Buy what you like" but I would not want folks getting their hopes up that this taobao was a pre-production test pony

just my two cents

She's still available on ebay if you're interested. The seller is from Spain, so depending on where you live postage might be as high as her price.

If I remember correctly we're not supposed to post ebay links if the listings aren't our own, so if you're interested or just want to look at the listing I can send the link via PM.

Wow, wild! She definitely reminds me of some of the old customs designs some people made with that makeup. I agree the styles on her are mismatched and I'm not a huge fan of the pinkie base, but this is quite a sight. It would be an oddity I would still be proud to own. And it's interesting how it's like this mystery if she's a fakie or a prototype haha, sometimes unsolves mysteries are the best ones.
