G5 G5 Chatter

I'm planning to check out the comics soon! I've seen them on shelves at my local comic shop and the art on some of the covers is too cute!

New Egmont magazine had Izzy figurine, mine had her mane feel off once I took her out, the g5 figurines are not as nice as the early g4 figurines and are made out of cheaper plastic.
But I do like how many details they have and how they're accurate to the 3d models from the movie. Izzy even has crystals in her mane (unlike her regular Hasbro figurine).

Im really struggling to like the art on these. they don't seem to have that "MLP" Feel anymore. Maybe I am just too old school and G1 has my heart I am struggling to accept the changes. Or the fact I am an artist myself and I don't like lazy art that all cartoons seem to have these days.

but my god... that YouTube MLP art.. I can't. I just can't. I refuse to even look at the episodes with how horrible the art is

Is it just me or does it really seem like these episodes are being released out of order? They keep referring back to things I haven't seen yet, and I've been trying to make a point to catch every episode.
They seem to be in order to me? But I know they keep uploading compilation episodes sometimes even when there weren’t that many to do so. I try to see these as one-off stories but then the episode about photos of Maretime Bay Day where they mentioned earth pony magic, I saw it right before I saw Make Your Mark and it felt like a spoiler

Hm... Yeah earth ponies having magic has come up again, it really has felt like it was just dropped out of nowhere though.
Episodes regarding Sunny's magic have seemed a bit all over the place as well, to me. :/ Sometimes I can feel that way if I watch something episodically though instead of all in one go....

They also had those moments of their marks shimmering, one episode seemed to briefly show every prior instance of it and I could recognize all but one.

I actually do agree with you. The art style hurts my soul, especially watching their leg movements, having studied horse anatomy for my own artwork. It doesn't really feel very MLP to me either. They've still got the messages like they always have, but... Some of the messaging is a bit questionable so far.

What it does feel like is something that's more Gen Z and something that's more Netflix.

You're not too old, the art style is ugly and cheap.

It seems like all the professional animations studios are starting to use more and more of this cheap and ugly as hell animation now days, and it's a real shame as I know there are better art styles out there that are cheap they could use.

Also I've noticed that there are more self thought animators out there that can produce better quality stuff than the so called professional studios.

When it comes to professional animation, a lot of the time artists are required to spend like legitimately a few seconds on each frame. Those who take longer can end up out of a job. Hobbyist animators, and I'm sure some small studios as well, can take more time on their animation frames.

That's also why, I'd say, MLP has dropped to this quality. It's an art and an animation style that artists who haven't studied horse anatomy can better grasp, so they don't need to hire more specialized artists, and they don't need to deal as much with non-specialized artists struggling to get the style right.

It is a guess, but that's what I think this all is. I saw it a lot in the FiM community, novice artists and artists who weren't used to drawing ponies alike, including a once-friend of mine who mostly drew humanoids, had some or all of these exact quirks in their pony artwork.

I'm thinking I may not need to cut off the ball joint to replace a G5's tail. Just cut the hair and add smaller zip ties around the hank of the new one, then stuff it in. The size of the tail hole is generous, and I did something similar to a Grand Champion foal who has much harder plastic, and also a generous tail hole.

Today my husband came home and told me that the full size Sunny Starscout at Target that is normally $16 was on clearance for $8! There are little ones on clearance also for $4 and change instead of $8! Naturally we went back and got some!

Omg!! CUTE! I wish the Alicorn Sunny was at my walmart, I did manage to get a few for $5 tho. Great finds! Did you get those four? :lolpony:

@strawberrypony32 , yes, I got the 4 little ones. Zip rang up at $2.62, so I bought an additional one of him. I think I'll just leave them in the boxes for 10 years or so, and see where the value goes. Lol!

@ArchdevilAntidot, that's possible. I haven't seen ponies made from this material in person before. I wonder why they switched from the tried and true that has made the G1s last forty years? *sigh*

I got those in clearance at my target as well!!!

I also plan to keep mine in the packaging, so here's to hoping they actually last :sadpony:

Do you think we're ever going to get new toys in the mainline? Or do you think this'll be G3.5/G4 all over again?

Do you mean like the potion ponies line? I think that one was a 4.5 style, so probably not.
I mean like, overly repetitious releases of the core cast in the main toyline and very little else. Hasbro started this generation out like a breath of fresh air, but is quickly falling back into bad habits. We've only had a handful of new toys and they're all in big multipacks.

If we don't get any new characters in the toyline by the end of the year then we can say that the whole toyline will be just six characters (5 ponies and the dragon) over and over.

They still had an excuse to not add too many background characters because there were not that many in the movie, but with the first special and the YouTube cartoon that excuse is no longer valid.

Mini World Magic already has a bunch of characters so they clearly have new ponies to add to the main toyline.
