So I've wanted to make an art book for a long time, and I've found myself getting really excited about the idea, but the thing is a costly endeavor. As I don't have a following to lean back on, I thought I'd at least start with asking around.

Discussion Questions: In general, do you like art books? Have you ever bought one, or would you consider buying one? What do you like or dislike about art books? If given the chance, would you prefer an art book or a single art print?

Art Book Details: If I made an art book I'm thinking full color, hardcover, with descriptions to go with each piece, and ideally around least 25 artworks. Here are some examples of items I would consider adding to it:

As well as this piece, or probably a remake of it (remake example is not complete, I would of course complete it):

Obviously I would make and refine plenty of artwork to go into it. I would want it to be a quality, gorgeous book, and something that tells something of a story. All feedback is appreciated.

I haven’t ever bought an art book myself because they’re generally very pricy, but I always like art books for things like Disney movies or zelda games. I like to see all the sketches, concept art and stories that lead up to the finished piece you know? Between an art book or a single print it’s hard to compare, I think if I just liked all the artists work I’d go for the book but if there was one piece I especially loved I’d buy the print so I could display it
That first pic with the unicorns and star is very pretty :D

Your art is very beautiful @Glistening Rainlight and I would love to support a community member! Art books do tend to be quite pricey, so I voted for the $15 mark because that's around what I'd be willing to spend at the moment (this Holiday season + inflation have bled me dry) and because it would be your first art book. However, I'm not sure what the cost would be on your end to get them produced in the first place and I understand if $15 is too low an asking price.
Maybe a mini art book? I've bought little pocket-sized paperback art books at fan conventions before that had about 10-15 prints and they're just as high quality as the commerical hardbacks.

It really depends strongly on what I make the book into - page count, cover type, page thickness, page and cover finishes, size, extra details, all kinds of things can make the price fluctuate wildly. It's entirely possible I'll need to downsize my idea in some way to keep it in cost. Thank you for your input and your interest!

Thank you! And true, kind of a bad time for getting started in any market right now. But an art book will take me quite some time to develop, it's certainly not something I'd have done anywhere near the holiday season.

Genuine question: Why does it matter that it would be my first art book?

A mini book... I actually didn't know that was even a thing to begin with. I looked into it and gave it some thought - while it's far more cost-effective for my side of things, I don't think I could personally stand behind such a product with any pride. I know it's not something I would think is worth buying. I am curious - what is it that you like about these mini art books?

your art is gorgeous in everything you draw, but of course, I'm a crazy pony person and I would prefer ponies >w<

Thank you! Hehe, well, we are a pony community, so I pretty much expect that. :b I do also prefer drawing ponies so it would lean heavily in that direction even if I did include humanoids~ But that is why I added the "ponies only" option.
