Gingerbread's kitchen

Well with 2020 being kind of a dud year I resolved that this would be a more celebratory fun year, even if I had to make up stuff LOL

and I will be hosting another recipe swap after the fundraiser :)

Ok this looks amazing, and I cannot think of a better way to lift spirits after such a crazy year.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas :xmastree2:

Happy Christmas in July everyone! Yes, friends Gingerbread celebrates a little Christmas in July. I can't help it, I blame Hallmark LOL Seriously, I worked at a Hallmark during my teen/early 20's and I always got excited when the ornaments came out in the summer and we had our big Christmas event. Then later on, one of my friends who is also a holiday nut and I would get together in July to watch Christmas movies, usually in Christmas PJs, while noshing on festive treats by Christmas lights :glitterball1:

This year I decided to host a small Christmas dinner as well for my family and a few friends. So what we got cookin' today....

First, we set the mood...

For dinner we had ham, mashed potatoes, corn casserole and sweet potato casserole.

and dessert was some Christmas cookies and peanut butter balls :)

We watched Rankin/Bass' T'was the Night before Christmas with our dinner. I had even saved a case of Mountain Dew's Merry Mash-up especially for the occasion LOL

And I must take a moment to thank @OctoberMoon who sent me these lovely Hallmark ornament club cookbooks, Hallmark and Ornaments and Christmas and Recipes from a Pony Friend!! Talk about combining everything I love! :xmashug:

This gets me in the mood for decorating! I'm super excited to decorate my new house, hopefully I will in it by the end of September so I can get my Halloween stuff out. I'm glad you liked the books! <3

You’re so adorable @Gingerbread. I love that you do this but also go as far to pre-plan during Christmas for your summer Christmas. That’s more foresight than I’m capable of these days. Lol I also love that you make use of decorations for more than once a year. I think more of us should do this. It’s a nice cozy thing to do. :wreath:

I’m slightly jealous of all the variety all you Americans have in snack foods and drinks. We don’t have near the variety here in Canada. If I’m lucky I can get Vanilla/Cherry Coke (zero) from a corner store that imports it. And that’s the most exciting thing we get here. Lol

*makes mental note to mail Sky seasonal snack variety pack*

I love decorating my house for any reason and I have to admit it's much easier now that I have a "holiday shed". I used to have all my decor packed up in our garage loft, it was hard to get to and required 2 people and a ladder. But we had to replace our garden shed a couple years ago so I got a larger one and divided it into 2 rooms with separate doors. One side is the gardening stuff and the other is all my holiday totes. They're stacked on shelves built to my height so I can easily get to anything by myself anytime. I love it! I even have all my decor in appropriate holiday color coordinating storage totes :lolpony: I'm so neurotic.

That all looks super cute and fun! :snowman: And ‘Twas the night is my favorite holiday special :D
Me and my mom watched a show called Christmas Wars (it’s a cake decorating show) earlier to celebrate

I’ll admit all of this makes me feel like we should do more festive things at home during the summer. It’s so hot here it’s not usually the most enjoyable time, so I’m sure something like this would make it more fun.

Chow Chow day! Do you know what chow chow is? and no, not the K9 variety the relish variety ;) Chow Chow is a pickled pepper relish. I've seen many a messy slurry try to pass as chow chow in stores but as a state fair blue ribbon chow chow veteran I can tell you, that store bought stuff is a pitiful facsimile! Good chow chow should not be mushy or pasty, it should have a good texture and slight crunch, the secret; no food processor. Yep friends, you gotta chop all them peppers and onions and green tomatoes and other secret ingredients by hand. So that way when they cook they don't get to soft and pulverized. My garden is wrapping up this summer but I was able to do a batch of chow chow, all with veggies from my own back yard :)
Now, what do you do with chow chow? I like it on crackers, or mixed in tuna or chicken salad, top your burgers or hot dogs, put it on sandwiches, I even add it to scrambled eggs. It's pretty versatile. Here's how my day went...

Literal torture for a girl who’s been on a liquid diet for 3 weeks (only 5 more weeks to go). Goes to cry in the sad corner. I’m excited to see what’s baking even if I can’t have anything.

That's a long time to liquid diet! I can't imagine!

Well, I baked my heart out Thurs for our state fair competitions. I this year I entered a chocolate chip pie, blueberry coffee cake and sweet potato pie cupcakes. I thought they all came out really good, they certainly looked good! I was excited for the fair this year cause they cancelled it last year. This is something I started doing a few years ago and I've managed to win a blue ribbon each year I've done it.

Look away Skybreeze!

But no blue ribbons this year  I placed 3rd on my coffee cake and chocolate chip pie and the cupcakes didn't even place. I'm appalled LOL I mean look at those cupcakes *sigh* oh, well placing on 2 out of 3 isn't too bad I guess but does ruin my blue ribbon streak! I'm telling myself the judge must've had covid at some point and their taste buds never got quite right LOL I thought for sure the cupcakes were gonna do well and if anything the coffee cake would be least impressive. Guess I'll have to buckle down even harder next year!! *game face*

It’s definitely not fun. It’s also weird when trying to make plans when a pony friend comes to town to visit when you can’t eat or drink anything.

ETA: Looks like we posted the same time. Your baking always looks so delicious, you’ve definitely got talent girl! Good reason that you are a blue ribbon baker.

I always host Thanksgiving for my family and the past 48 hours have been marathon cooking at Gingerbread's house. Now it's PJs and falling asleep in front of the TV time LOL
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! So thankful for my MLPTP pony friends :happyTG:

on the menu; cocktail shrimp, celery appetizer, cranberries (my delicious homemade relish and the canned blob for those weirdos LOL), green bean casserole (my style, no yucky cream of mushroom), sweet potato casserole, corn pudding, roasted baby potatoes, mashed potatoes, lima beans, broccoli, homemade stuffing (no Stove Top in this house!), rolls and turkey breasts. For dessert; tower of pies! pumpkin, peanut, indiana sugar, toll house and there were 2 refrigerated ones not pictured (chocolate mousse and a vegan peanut butter for my lil' bro. As well as lime Jello salad, brownies and sweet potato pie cupcakes.

Although really, I don't know why I even bothered when I had these LOL I bought them to be funny, my husband and I were the only brave ones willing to try them. Gotta say, my dinner was much better but the coffee one wasn't half bad :p
