Glasses, spectacles, and other vision correction.

I'm supposed to wear glasses all the time and when I drive, but I don't there's something about wearing glasses that bugs me so I never wear them.

Also I'm apparently nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other, but it evens out between them so I've never noticed it.
I always wear glasses when I drive (I am nearsighted). So, without them I would never ever be able to read any street signs until after I was supposed to turn. Lol

Fun fact, I also have Optic Neuritis in my right eye. So there’s times in which I am technically blind in my eye and all I “see” is darkness. MS is such a wonderful thing to have. :rolleyespony:

I wear glasses too, most of the cost is in the lenses. I have quite a high perscription and an astigmatism (and Graves as well as it happens). The Graves will predispose you to dry eye and glaucoma too, so glasses are much kinder to your eyes. I buy mine on line now as it is so much cheaper. About $180 AU compared to about $600. I am low income and medicare only covers an eye test every two years and health insurance in Australia is nothing like the US. I've worn glasses for 30 years, a set of frames usually lasts me a 3 to 6 years. Just be aware that your perscription will have some influence on the frames you can have as higher index perscriptions need stronger frames, though I have to say lenses have improved so much it's unreal. I use to have real coke bottle lenses, but these days the newer lenses are so much thinner and lighter.
My ophthalmologist officially diagnosed it as "thyroid eye disease", caused by my graves. They have me seeing a specialist on the 20th, since this is the third year in a row that my envisioned has worsen by so much. I already have a permanent blind spot on the center bottom of my right eye from my complex migraines. They cut off blood supply long enough to kill a small area. It's been at least 3 years now. I have double vision in my left eye. So, they are looking at my right to see about anything that can keep it from deteriorating further. It's had higher pressure for several years... I would really rather not lose vision entirely in my right eye. I just have to wait and see.

Would this be easier to accept if I was 50+? I wonder.

I was looking at the optic neuritis. I may mention it to my doctor. The complex migraines sometimes do that to my right eye. Also, all I see is varying levels of light, no shapes or forms, when I first wake up.

I use eye drops every morning and night. Plus, I don't know if anyone else does this, I have an aluminum soda can in my fridge (can't drink it due to rude kidneys), but I rest that round cold can on my closed eye in the morning and it is heavenly. Feels so amazing. It really helps my eye focus better, too. It seems counterintuitive, since my ophthalmologist has me doing "physical therapy" on my eyes with a hot cloth and then expressing my glands in my eyelids. The cold is so much better.

I wouldn't think it's ever easy to accept at any age ☹️.

My dad got lasik since he was beyond the help of glasses. So very odd seeing him without glasses. He had coke bottle lenses in grade school. Now he has reading glasses.

Funny story, when I was going to my OBGYN during pregnancy my Dr had not gotten his contacts or Lasik or whatever he has now. He wore these thick coke bottle lenses that made his eyes look like tiny dots. I remember looking at him during hard labor and all I could see were those tiny beady eyes and a big smile.

Oh my! I opted for a midwife, but was at the "family birth center" (it was a brand new addition!), so there were facilities on hand for c-section.

So mad at insurance! They are denying all payment. :( I get to go drive out and figure out what to do tomorrow.
Ugh, insurance companies can be royal butts... Especially about eyesight stuff (Where they're often a prime example of the foolhardy short-term thinking that dominates so much of the economy).

I agree, insurance is the worst! Good luck @Tak I still think it's nonsense that dental and vision have to be separate policies from medical. Your vision and eyes are part of your health and don't get me started on teeth! It has been proven that poor oral health can affect so many other things in your body. We are one whole being and medical insurance should cover those things just like everything else.
Politicians talk about fixing healthcare, they need to look at the insurance companies, they are the root of the problem. I don't know if the US will ever see free healthcare, insurance and medicine are big buck companies in this county and their lines run through much of the powers that be. It's a terrible system that I deal with daily working in healthcare but I'll get off my soapbox box now.

Pet healthcare is getting bad.

So... great news! My optometrist decided to honor the price I already paid and just comp the difference that the insurance denied. They said since it was their error, they had no problem honoring the price I signed for. Yay! :flutter2:
