Got scammed and feel dumb as a box of rocks :(

I've been trying to get my hands on a ps5 to surprise my fiancee and got in touch with someone claiming to be selling one. He was very believable and seemed to be on the up and up, but I think part of it was just wanting so badly for it to work out.

Long story short, I'm out $650 and jumping through hoops with my bank trying to get my money back. I'm just so embarrassed! This is the first time I've been scammed, and man, I know better! I know all about being safe buying things online, but I fell for a scam because I wanted to believe it. I never expected the shame to be one of the worst parts of the experience.

I’m so sorry you had to experience this. I did myself. Truly, the thoughts of ‘why didn’t I realize sooner?’ are the worst. My bank was supremely easy to work with. PayPal was a literal nightmare. I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

Also, I know GameStop gets some bad reviews, but if they say they have one, they do.

650? i'm so sorry & i REALLY hope things work out and you get it back, thats a crazy amount of money been there before for the first time last year when i tried buying a study break w/ shenanigans set on a sales site that seemed legit and well, i was wrong. (was out $25 bucks, a far cry from your experience but same nonetheless) sadly people with the least good of intentions can be crafty like that... we want something so bad that we'll believe anything to get it, happens to the best of us.

Yep, like everyone says it happens to the best of us. It's true sometimes you want it so bad you ignore some of the signs. Hope you can get your money back some way or another though. That really sucks

I appreciate the support, everyone. It seems like more people get scammed than you'd expect, I guess the embarrassment of it keeps us from saying much! I got my money thanks to my bank, I'm thinking I'll see about filing a police report about the scammer? He's clearly been at this for years and I'd like to do SOMETHING that might keep someone safe in the future.

Had a rough day ps5 hunting lol, I called a best buy about 40 minutes away and they had two, but they couldn't hold one for me and I was at work so that was tragic, and then I managed to order one online through target but I guess they sold out before their inventory online updated so my order was cancelled. I just gotta keep trying I guess!

Sorry about what happened to you.
I'm not sure if they have any in stock right now, but you might want to keep an eye out on QVC and HSN.
My brother found one last year off one of those sites.
The TV is almost always on one of those stations and I've seen it adverstised a few times since then.

This happened to me once,I saw this bundle of Monster High on this site called Preloved used PayPal to purchase them, they didn’t com so i was £30 out. PayPal didn’t care.
